I've already talked about the Judy Garland festivals and the Fringe festival in other posts. Baby It's You is playing until Labor Day weekend.
For those of you who can't get away on a cruise, Lincoln Center is celebrating Ocean Liners on Screen. MOMA has a series of summer films from the archives. Since for the first time in years, I didn't get to see Shakespeare in the (Central) Park or this year's visit from the Royal Shakespeare Company, I was pleased to see two versions of Midsummer Night's Dream on the calendar. One cast includes Spencer Tracy. The other version includes Diana Rigg. Which would you choose?
The Paley Center is also celebrating Lucille Ball's 100th birthday. The Library for the Performing Arts is honoring Elizabeth Taylor. The Central Park Film Festival arrives at the end of August.
Restaurant Week continues through Labor Day weekend and a friend of my just opened up a mellow restaurant right across the street from The Book of Mormon called E & E's Grill House. What used to be called Harlem Week pretty much lasts a month.
If you want a quick very New York read, try Pete Hamill's latest Tabloid City.
Everyone knows that the US Open Tennis tournament is at the end of the month but....This year New York is playing host to the Bravest and Finest for the World Police and Fire Games.
I've just scratched the surface, feel free to add to this list in the comment section.
I have to get some sleep so I can enjoy a little of the first of 3 Saturdays of Summer Streets before heading to fry on a HOHO bus.
