Triangle Shirtwaist Commemoration - March 2014

This year's commemoration will take place on March 25, 2014 at the site at noon. There are other related events listed on the commemoration link above. The victims names and ages will again be chalked in front of the locations where they lived. You can find a complete map here. If you encounter a chalked location, pause, say a prayer and consider the life that was lost on March 25, 1911. If anyone wonders what you are doing, explain it to them.

Grandma

Found this picture of my maternal grandmother in a garment factory in Paterson NJ. Her work place was much safer because of laws passed after the fire.  For links to my posts about the fire in prior years, you can begin your journey here.

I will be heading to the Village for the ceremonies late morning. Before the ceremony I will be visiting Hebrew Union College to see a great exhibit by a friend.

After the ceremony I will be searching for lunch and chalk locations in the South and West Village for a couple of hours.  You are welcome to join me. Just send me an email.

Watched some early chalking today by Charlene Weisler founder of this blog community. Took the select bus home. It conveniently stopped at Glasers.
