May 2008 Pet Horoscope

A Taurus Sun opens the month with sturdy self-assuredness. (“You talking to me??) On the 22nd, the Sun moves into Gemini to spark any pet’s playfulness.

Catdog

TAURUS   (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
The planets signify a time for reflection followed by swift action; A time to plan and implement action for future projects.. or at least another meal. Taurean pets are on a mission, but can be diverted by a new thing in their dish.

GEMINI   (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
Gemini pets love to share their stuff and this May, "give unto others" is the key to true happiness. I’m not sure what you can do with an old piece of string or a soggy bone, but always remember to say thank you.

CANCER   (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Friends gravitate around Cancerian pets this May. These sensitive souls always want to  help a friend in need but may go to the extreme. Keep an eye on them lest they stray too far from home and get lost.

LEO   (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
Leo pets may make themselves absent just to see how much you miss them this May. These pets yearn to be admired and stroked and may not feel as if they are getting enough adulation. Decide if you want them to sit and sulk or if you just love to hug them all the time.

VIRGO   (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
Randy Virgo pets may be very ... ahem... sexually active this May. The warning is to keep them in the confines of the house or in an area where you can monitor them so they don’t run away to have their fun. Hi Mom and Dad!

LIBRA   (SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 23)
The early part of May will turn out to be the perfect time for your Libra pet to seek or reinforce one-to-one relationships.  The month looks ripe for deep involvements and heavy emotional interactions.

SCORPIO   (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
Active Scorpio pets may yearn to take it easy and be a bit lazier than usual this May. Life is more than the day to day grind. They may pay a bit more attention to you so be prepared to give them a little more attention too.

SAGITTARIUS   (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
Sagittarian pets will play all they want in the early part of May, but may be on a personal mission by the end of the month. Maybe that means getting into the food supply or burying a particular treasure at the back of your closet. Surprise!

CAPRICORN   (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
Capricorn pets work quietly and efficiently in the background and build their little arsenal of toys carefully and quietly this May. Buy them a few new things to let them know that you really care.

AQUARIUS   (JANUARY 21 - FEBRUARY 19)
Aquarian pets stay close to home this May when home and hearth become a center of their activities and source of joy. Also, it may be because flea season is rearing its ugly head and they may be more susceptible than usual.

PISCES   (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
Pisces pets seem to lack self confidence but that is all a facade. Communication is at a peak and they will ask for the world and expect to receive. Think before you give. It will only spur them to ask for even more!

ARIES   (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
Aries pets get the word out in May and engage in shameless self-promotion. Let them enjoy their freedom and feistiness while the summer shines. There’s always time for restraint in the fall.

May 2008 Horoscope

Plant a bevy of May flowers and expect some budding surprises throughout the month. That’s because Mercury retrogrades and sparks an imaginative jaunt with Neptune. Don’t ask “May I?”. Just forge ahead and bloom.

Taurus

TAURUS   (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
Bulls feel especially greedy and mercenary this May. Unfortunately your quest for money may not result in extra booty, just extra angst. Mercury and Neptune retrograde and conspire to dangle the carrot deceptively and tantalizingly out of your reach. Don’t be fooled and don’t jump for every coin. There will be time to grab the bulging bag later this summer.

GEMINI   (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
There is an exotic stranger who would like to take you for a ride. But save your cab fare and travel on your own instead.  Twins are blabbing first and thinking later. As good as someone looks, they are less than what they appear to be. Mercury and Neptune retrograde manage to weave dreams from floss. There is no substance, it sure looks pretty but it has no strength.

CANCER   (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Crabs are apt to pry open everyone’s Pandoras Box this May. Curiosity may get the better of you and folks find that you simply can’t be trusted to keep a secret. Of course, allowing a little spillage now and then is liberating. So if you decide to open the floodgates, be sure that lovers are comfortable with the water level. When in doubt float gently on your good name.

LEO   (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
Friends manage to topple the domestic applecart this May if you allow. Certain truisms are no longer valid and things that you routinely take for granted seem to shift. Maybe Lions secretly yearn to modify their current partnerships and so allow changes to be made on their behalf. If you are on the prowl, expect hotsy totsy romance from an otherwise cool individual.

VIRGO   (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
May is the month to more carefully consider what you really want out of life. Is your career path going in the direction you want? Are you hob nobbing with the appropriate nobs or are they just a bunch of slobs? Virgos have to choose or lose from a couple of major moves now. Take a good hard look at your circumstances, gather your data and then go with your gut.

LIBRA   (SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 23)
There is arguably never a better time to travel than this May. Libras can find adventure, lust, excitement and surprises in faraway places. But try not to go overboard in any excursion. Keep an eye on your budget and the amount of time you decide to take from work. Not only are you flying on a dream, you may be forgetting some loose ends. Tie ‘em up or down.

SCORPIO   (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
Not only will your home life become more lively this May, you may also find a range of other delightful diversions wherever you hang your hat. Scorps are especially passionate and sexy now and can charm anyone they set their mind to charm. Will you waste this on a light bite or hold out for the full banquet. Why is this night different from all other nights.

SAGITTARIUS   (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
May is a time of openness, honesty and positive changes in any of your relationships if you are willing to work at it. Even if you are not willing to work at it, good changes occur anyway. Maybe its because you feel free to express your opinions. Or maybe its because you are listening carefully. They say there is nothing sexier than a good listener. Especially if they are naked.

CAPRICORN   (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
If your “in” box is overflowing, take a breath and think of May. You gain a fresh perspective on any drab cubicle. Caps have several great ideas that can lighten their load at work. But consider implementing them only after they are vetted for practicality and cost. A toned body for swimsuit season is also in the cards if you know deal with the exercise required.

AQUARIUS   (JANUARY 21 - FEBRUARY 19)
Make a beeline for any big party scene this May. You create quite a bit of buzz in your comings and goings. Not only are Aquarians the toast of the town, they grab all the attention and make the most out of any brief encounter. Choose the most important folks to impress. Jump into the pit and charm any snake. Speak in a forked tongue if you have to.

PISCES   (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
Fish are especially intuitive in May. They seem to know what will happen before it occurs. This is particularly true with any family related issue. Get to the core of the matter and improve the situation. It is also a good time to change your residence. If funds are tight, spruce it up rather than tear it down. Hint: Lose the macrame plant hangers.

ARIES   (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
Your thoughts and speech cannot be reined in this May although you may try to do so. There is something quietly but shockingly out of control with Rams. Expect a number of “uh oh” moments when you might spill the beans to friends or imagine something outrageous and ultimately incorrect. Don’t jump to conclusions, especially when you are so close to the cliff.

Window On the Rainforest Crisis

Abcwindow
I enjoy looking at store windows as I walk in the city and I frequently admire the artistry of the displays. But when I walked by this window for ABC Carpets in New York City, it was the message that stopped me in my tracks:

Every minute 147 acres of rainforest is cut.

How is that possible I wondered as I quickly tried to calculate the impact of say a year's time. (147 x 60 x 24 x 365 = 77,263,200 acres, I later figured.) At the rainforest site they say:

Rainforests are some of the world's most ancient and complex ecosystems. They cover a mere 2% of the Earth, yet more than half of all plant and animal species live there. The rainforest is home to creatures as famous as the jaguar and poison dart frog, as well as lesser-known and even unidentified species.

At rainforests.net they have a running tally on the home page that estimates the "rainforest acres cut so far this year" and the "species extinctions this year." It's easy to see that these ecosystems are an amazing resource that is quickly slipping away. If you'd like to help save the rainforest, you can adopt an acre through The Nature Conservancy.

Uranus Toilet Paper: Lost in Translation?

Tpastro I always take note of products with an astrology- or astronomy-related theme and this photo of toilet paper -- Uranus -- caught my eye. How do you suppose the radio ad jingle sounds: When you're on the toilet and need a wipe, just reach for Uranus?

This is from engrish.com which features photos of products, signs, etc. that make humorous English mistakes. Although this toilet paper was seen in Hong Kong, the webmaster has found that the vast majority of the really funny and creative Engrish is from Japan. Visit the site for more laughs.

Do you have any favorite astrology/astronomy themed items?
