Lego Sports City Recreates Beijing Olympics Including the Bird's Nest Stadium
One of the most exciting stadiums ever built, the Beijing National Stadium is known as the 'bird's nest' because of its beguiling latticed surface. Designed by Swiss architects Herzog and de Meuron, and Chinese architect Li Xinggang the complex, it has 91,000 seats and will host the opening and closing ceremonies as well as athletic events.
The Bird's Nest stadium is my favorite part of the Beijing Olympic village. So when I read that a detailed Lego replica of the Beijing Olympic site had been constructed by Chinese Lego fans, that was the first building I looked for. I think they did a wonderful job capturing the unique construction and profile of the stadium. The total display uses 300,000 Lego bricks and 4,500 Lego people and was completed in 100 hours. I love it!
