The Astrology Chart for Election Day - November 4, 2008 - moon reissue

People have horoscopes and so do buildings, pets, events, storms and anything of note. So it is possible to run the astrology chart of an event such as Election Day. I ran a horoscope for November 4, 2008 for 9pm Washington DC time to coincide with the closing of the polls. The resulting chart was very interesting.

On this post I will discuss how the day itself can play out based on transiting planets. On another post I will compare the Election Day horoscope to the horoscopes of John McCain and Barack Obama to see which candidate might be better situated astrologically on that day.

Election day

The Election Day chart (November 4, 2008, Washington DC, 9:00pm) has Sun in Scorpio. All U.S. Presidential Election Day charts have a Scorpio sun sign because all of them take place in early November. Scorpios are passionate, secretive and intense. The passion of the race and the privacy that we expect when we vote fits well with the day's Scorpio energy.

This year the Moon will be in Capricorn for most of the day indicating a political, hard-edged bent to the process. But then the moon will enter Aquarius in the evening and when the polls close. Aquarians fight for what is right and demand fairness and equality. Will the Aquarian need for justice be tested as the polls close? It is possible: The moon is then well aspected to Mercury (thoughts and communication) and Venus (charm and charisma) but squares Mars (actions).

Mercury is in Libra and turns up the charm and diplomacy. Venus is in Sagittarius which is very honest and open. Feelings will be released and not necessarily sugar coated or diplomatic. Mars in Scorpio indicates powerful energy, careful calculation and adds political saviness to the process. Expect a lot of behind the scenes maneuvering and back room politicking.

Jupiter is in Capricorn and might put a damper of any celebration since Capricorn is a restricting energy even though Jupiter is expansion and luck. Luck will be hard earned. Saturn in Virgo underscores that last sentence. There are no easy avenues or shortcuts. Only discipline and hard work will pay off. Slow and steady wins the race. Uranus (shocks, surprises) is retrograde in Pisces which means anything and everything can happen ... and probably will. Neptune (dreams, intuition) in Aquarius indicates big dream that are world changing. Pluto in Sagittarius strives for justice, fair play and equality.

The transits to the U.S. Election Day chart give us an excellent insight into possible scenarios for the day: Transiting Jupiter in 16 degrees Capricorn will conjunct the election day chart's moon in 28 Capricorn. This is an enormous emotional push pull for the day. Emotions will run high as will the stress level.

There are many aspects by transiting Saturn which is notable. Saturn demands hard work to get any rewards. It highlights problems, restrictions, where we feel that we don't measure up and where we feel less confident. Transiting Saturn will be 18 degrees in Virgo on this day. Saturn in Virgo is good in that it shows that hard, diligent, detailed work can eventually reap rewards. (And certainly it has been a long hard slog for both candidates to get to this day.) Transiting Saturn will trine the Election Day horoscope's moon indicating some careful pessimism, an emotionally realistic approach and being able to use any past struggle to good future use. Lessons learned ... in Florida ... in Ohio etc. Saturn will also trine Jupiter which accentuates learning from past mistakes and good luck after putting in the effort.

But transiting Saturn also will oppose Uranus on Election Day. This can bring powerful, unpleasant surprises. It also will conjunct the election day chart's Saturn which indicates that a major cycle is closing and a new one is beginning. When people go through a Saturn conjunct Saturn it is called their Saturn Return. In this case it is the Presidential Saturn Return. During the return phase we want change NOW but it either doesn't happen or, if it does, it is not what we want or expect. It is a time of great learning. Further transiting Saturn will square the election day chart's Venus which can create some sore losers. Stress and tension without any resulting harmony.

Which team has the advantage on this day? More posts on the subject will be coming up soon.
