Carl Jung's Red Book

The psychiatrist Carl Jung, who studied with and then broke away from Sigmund Freud, became one of the leading thinkers who believed that human behavior could be illuminated through astrology, archetypes of tarot, dream analysis and other new age disciplines. He wrote and illustrated a book which has been kept hidden away by his family for decades. Now it has just come to light and has been published. Jung's The Red Book stemmed from his "confrontation with the unconscious" during which visions came to him "in incessant streams".

According to Jung, dreaming offers a window to the psyche. There are plenty of symbolic meanings in your dreams that can be used to treat psychological problems. He wrote Memories, Dreams, Reflections  and there are also plenty of great dream analysis sites out there if you want to try to interpret your own dreams. Jung added another element - the astrological chart analysis - to further help analyze ones psyche. For example: Where does Saturn the planet of problems lie in your natal horoscope chart? How does it interact with the other planet placements?

The Price of Beauty

Just saw this withering article on AOL and had to share with you. I always figured that wearing too much make-up was like daily applying a load of chemicals to your face. And I was always suspect of the very very strong deoderants, especially anti-perspirants where a combination of chemicals and laboratory substances would prevent you from ridding your body of toxins. There have been some under-the-counter studies about how certain deoderants cause breast cancer in women but nothing that has made the front pages. But it stands to reason that using all of these chemicals could have a negative impact on our health.

Makeup

Here are excerpts of the article:

A recent study by Bionsen, a natural deodorant company, estimates that the average woman wears 515 chemicals a day -- from eye shadow ingredients linked to cancer to perfume ingredients linked to kidney damage. In September, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration found extremely high levels of lead in lipstick. In addition, recent research from the Washington, D.C.-based Environmental Working Group (EWG) showed that teenage girls are exposing themselves to potentially hormone-altering substances by engaging in that seemingly-innocent coming-of-age tradition of applying makeup.

Yet, despite the dangers, women need to bathe and groom -- and most of us like a little extra color on our faces. So what can we do to stay healthy and still look good? The quick answer is: Use fewer products and educate yourself. Buy from companies that disclose their formulations.

When shopping, there are a few key ingredients to be avoid. However, due to lax regulation, you may find them in products marked “organic” and “all-natural,” so be on the lookout. Choose from the many nail polishes that have been reformulated to remove a common “toxic trio:” Dibutyl phthalate, a reproductive toxin; toluene, which affects the nervous system and may cause headaches; and formaldehyde, which can cause allergies and irritation. Stay away from sodium lauryl and laureth sulfate, which are spopular in cleaning products, such as body washes, as they can cause skin irritation. Triclosan and triclocarban, which pop up in antibacterial hand soap, can damage both the thyroid and the environment. Instead, use plain soap. If you wash for 20 seconds, you’ll be just as germ-free.

Finally, stay away from parabens, common in shampoos, lotions and shaving gels. These preservatives have been so widely and publicly exposed as toxic contaminants that it is now relatively easy to find clearly-marked parabens-free products. Brown also counsels cutting out fragrance completely, since the term “fragrance” is poorly defined and could contain any number of mysterious and unhealthy synthetic compounds. If the ingredients sound too long to remember, the Cosmetics Database offers a free pocket-size ingredients guide, where you can also find out more about over 50,000 products. If improving your health and helping the environment isn’t enough, think about this hidden benefit: Eliminating every mascara with toxic ingredients will make choosing from the overwhelming array of drugstore brands (Thickening! Lengthening! Double-thickening and lengthening!) much quicker and easier.

ARIES   (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
Don’t be surprised if you begin to feel like a drone, laboring under the watchful eyes of a royal bee. Work seems to pile up and up. But you will find that what transpires over the next few weeks will make you more practical and ultimately more successful. Hopefully that will be enough to make you feel better as you nurse your hot toddie by the xerox machine.

TAURUS   (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
Bulls embark on global enterprises that will bring them status, money and perhaps even a little happiness. You have the opportunity to make huge strides in the world arena. Don’t sit at home and wait for a delivery. See if you can make your mark on the world stage and meet new, exotic people who will help you in your ascent. Pack the mistletoe. You never know...

GEMINI   (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
Even Twins need a little cuddle now and then. The weeks bring you more than just a warm handshake or a chaste sit down on Santa’s lap. You are sexy and very willing to spread your special oil around. This will wind up working well for you as the month progresses. You will have your choice of New Years dates. Will it result in more new years resolutions?

CANCER   (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Crabs yearn for the perfect relationship and may be able to craft one now. Those currently in a relationship can smooth out the rough edges. Those seeking connection will feel  a spark as they move their way through the social circuit. See how your special someone reacts. If the feeling is mutual, find  ways to lift the happiness and reduce the stress. Get creative...

LEO   (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
You have a lot on your holiday plate. So much so we should begin to call it a platter. How much can you handle and still keep up your high quality? Give yourself a short break, Lion, and see if you can prioritize and possibly delegate. Once you can focus, there is nothing that you can’t achieve. No matter how lofty, silly or impossible it may first appear.

VIRGO   (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
Virgins become the life of the party and the sooner the better! You were beginning to sound humbuggy. Put on your holiday hat and dance with the crowd. Not only do you fun despite yourself, you increase your energy level, possibly plug into a little romance and increase your overall luck. Turn that frown into a smile. Folks will wonder what you are really up to.

LIBRA   (SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 23)
Find unique and delightful ways to entertain at home over the next few weeks. Libras have a flair for creating the ultimate holiday celebration and can do so with ease. Gather kindred souls together and create a warm and condusive atmosphere. There is plenty of time to travel far and wide early next year. For now, hang your stocking and wait for it to fill up.

SCORPIO   (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
Now is the time when you can easily focus on any next steps in your life. Change is afoot so don’t trip out of the starting gate. The most important thing to remember is that careful planning is essential. Scorps have a few things on their mind and are ready to voice their opinion. And why not? You are on the mark and ready to make a point. Tell it to the elves!

SAGITTARIUS   (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
Have you been a spender or a saver this past year? Over the next four weeks, you find that the temptation to amass the perfect (expensive) gifts may become too great.  Archers want it all no matter the price. But the fates have other plans. There are many ways to enjoy your time that needn’t cost a fortune. Let me know when you think of some.

CAPRICORN   (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
First impressions are lasting impressions now. Circumstances conspire to make you the center of attention. Make good use of your time in the center stage. Caps find that they can launch new projects as well as meet, greet and charm anyone they decide to razzle dazzle. So don’t sit home and wait for a knock on the door. Venture forth with a few gifts.

AQUARIUS   (JANUARY 21 - FEBRUARY 19)
You have a few tricks up your sleeve and good thing too. Things were getting too routine and boring. This is the time to harness your energies. Use your intuition and see if you can discern the motivations of others. In solving some behind the scene plots, you will be able to avoid those folks who are trying to undermine you. Be cool, calm, collected and successful.

PISCES   (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
Think of ways to gather friends together. Opportunities abound for a variety of pleasurable but platonic pastimes. Consider joining some new clubs or dancing in some new and more festive holiday parties. The folks you meet now spark your imagination and can benefit you in the future. Pisces are people who need people. Just don’t get too needy.

Lucky Numbers for the week of November 27, 2009

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But I think it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes.

So with that in mind, I decided that we could use some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....?

I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth.

Here are the lucky numbers for the week of November 27-December 3, 2009:

11, 13, 24, 44, 47, 62, 75, 79

There are many ways to delve into your own consciousness to find luck and intuition. Try reading Dream Power/Improve Your Luck (Super Strength Series) and see if your dreams give you any clues and premonitions.

Blue Lights to Stop Suicides?

I just read that the Japanese Railway system is installing flickering blue lights on their platforms to stop the rash of suicides. The theory is that they think blue lights will calm people and bring them out of their despair. Suicides on the Japanese Rails is increasing, possibly because of the high unemployment. But this blue light fix may or may not not do the trick - it is in the testing stage.

In thinking about this plan, I recall a post on the impact of colors on our moods. Blue is considered a calming color as well as an appetite supressor. But will blue lights have such a dramatic impact on someone's mood that they will change their behavior? Wouldn't they want to choose a color that elevates mood rather than calms the mood? More testing needs to be done....
