Lucky Numbers for the Week of June 25, 2010

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But I think it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes.

So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....?

I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth.

Here are the lucky numbers for the week of June 25-July 1, 2010:

15, 16, 27, 34, 41, 49, 50, 70

There are many ways to delve into your own consciousness to find luck and intuition. Try reading Dream Power/Improve Your Luck (Super Strength Series) and see if your dreams give you any clues and premonitions. Here's a guide to the best books available this month.

Astrology By the Glass - Cancer

Cancer There are twelve of these "Astrology By the Glass" posts coming up over the next few months which describes each astrology sign's drinking habits and preferences. I found this in my file of favorite columns from various authors and sources. Unfortunately there is no byline and I have no idea who wrote this. So if you know who, please let me know and I will give full credit and a link. After reading this, check out The Intoxicated Zodiac for recipes by sign. Cheers!

CANCER (June 21 - July 20)

Drinking style: Cancer is a comfort drinker -- and an extra wine with dinner or an after-work beer or six can be extra comforting, can't it, Cancer darling? Like fellow water signs Scorpio and Pisces, Crabs must guard against lushery. Cancers are brilliant at ferreting out secret parties and insinuating themselves on VIP lists -- and, in true Hollywood style, Cancers are never really drunk; instead, they get "tired and emotional" (read: weepy when lubricated). But there's nothing better than swapping stories (and spit) over a few bottles of inky red wine with your favourite Cancer. Even your second-favourite Cancer will do.

Trademark cocktails: Ruled by the moon, Cancers are intrigued by the idea of moonshine -- any brown booze, from a bourbon press to a whiskey and soda to grandpappy's special brew in a mason jar, will do. They also like comfortingly warm and sweet drinks, like hot toddies and hot buttered rums. The sign also rules the flavour vanilla, and you'd be adored if you served up a vanilla vodka and soda.

Drinking buddies: Pamela Anderson, George W. Bush, Bill Cosby, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Sean Hayes, Lil' Kim, George Michael, Princess Diana, Prince William

Religious Talismen Votive Painting in the Brooklyn Museum

There is something magical and alluring (at least I think so) about a painting that is more than just a pretty scene. I like artwork with fuller meaning. Usually that means something spiritual, otherworldly or new age. Some element that says that there is something mystical going on.

I have written about Mexican Votive paintings and Votive Animal paintings. I am always on the look out for a good Votive painting. So when I went to the Brooklyn Museum recently, I was particluarly struck with a painting that had all the great elements for me - nice art work coupled with new age spiritual elements. The photo of the painting is below. It has many Christian symbols and is indeed a Christian Ex-Votis painting. Lambs, representing Jesus Christ form the base of the five finger hand. The hand is very emblematic of Judiasm, thus the Jewish roots of Christianity here. But the hand has stigmata so it is Christ's hand.

Why seven lambs? Does anyone know what they symbolize?

Top Ten Yoga Studio Dos and Don'ts

Yoga Many of us, myself included, are first acquainting ourselves with yoga. I find that not only is it a great way to exercise, stretch and firm muscles, but it is also great for relieving stress. Mind and body harmony is the promise and the rewards. So I was more than a little interested in a NYT article on yoga etiquette. Here is their seven tips and I added three more to make a top ten list of Yoga etiquette tips:

When going to a yoga studio class:

1. Don't Barge Out - Leaving noiseily while the class is still in the final minutes of relaxation is a no no.

2. Don't Barge In - Don't noisily toss your mat on the floor whie others are quietly preparing for the class.

3. Don't Under Dress - This seems to go especially for men who would do better to wear loose capris but may decide to dress in European skimpy mens bathing suits. Not a pretty sight. Please cover up.

4. Don't stray from the Om. - At the end of class during the meditative period, it is Om, not Ah or Oh or Who or Whatever.

5. No singing to the music please... or humming or making grunting noises for that matter.

6. No cellphones.

7. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Good hygiene goes without saying.

8. Help put the class blocks, traps and blankets etc away at the end of the class.

9. Don't dawdle at the end of class. Chances are there is another stressed out group is waiting to get into the classroom so they can mellow out too.

10. Finally, don't take a class that is way above your level. This is more for ou than for the others in the class- you will enjoy it more if you feel that you have accomplished at your level in tune with the group.

Welcome the Astrology Sign of Cancer

Princess di On June 22, 2010 the Sun enters the zodiac sign of Cancer the Crab and welcomes a 31 day period of emotional connection, nostalgia, home based activities and children. Cancers are the cuddling mothers of the zodiac who are caring, sensitive and sometimes a little moody.

(Princess Diana had Sun in Cancer)

Cancer the Crab has a hard exterior but is mushy inside so don't let their public face fool you - they are highly emotional, sometime a bit needy and very loyal. When they fall in love, they love with all their heart and there is no one better than a Cancer to support you through thick and thin times. Don't take their love for granted though. Yes it seems unconditional - they will always stick up for you - but they need love reciprocated. Shower them with cuddles and kisses and see how they perk up! Crabs can be crabby, but that is because they are highly attuned to the phases of the moon. The old name for Caner the Crab was Moon Children. So just like the phases of the moon, Cancers can be waxing or waning, full or eclipsed. Be sensitive to their phases and moods.

It is all worth it - they create a warm and comforting home environment full of love and the pitter patter of little feet - whether children or pets .... or both!

Famous folks with Sun in Cancer are:

Meryl Streep

Princess Diana

Harrison Ford

Nelson Mandella

Lena Horne
