Astrology By the Glass - Libra

Libra There are twelve of these "Astrology By the Glass" posts coming up over the next few months which describes each astrology sign's drinking habits and preferences. I found this in my file of favorite columns from various authors and sources. Unfortunately there is no byline and I have no idea who wrote this. So if you know who, please let me know and I will give full credit and a link. After reading this, check out The Intoxicated Zodiac for recipes by sign. Cheers!

LIBRA (September 20 - October 21)

Drinking style: "I'm jusht a social drinker," slurs Libra, "it's jusht that I'm so damn social?" Libra loves nothing more than to party, mingle and relate to everyone. Whether dipped in favour of Good Libra (with Insta-Friend device set to "on") or heavier on the Evil Libra side (they are little instigators when bored), the Scales can really work a room. Charming as they are, Libras are notoriously lacking in self-control, however, which can get them into all sorts of trouble -- including wearing their wobbly boots waaaay too early in the evening, flirting with their best friend's beau or even blacking out the night's events entirely. Oops!

Trademark cocktails: Aesthetic Libras like pretty, pouffy drinks like a pink lady or a brandy Alexander. That's the influence of Venus, their ruling planet, which also gives them a horror of crudely named potions like Sex on the Beach. They're fine with "normal" guzzles like apple martinis, but every Libra secretly just wants Champagne, and lots of it.

Drinking buddies: Jimmy Carter, Simon Cowell, Ani DiFranco, Janeane Garofalo, Hugh Jackman, Martina Navratilova, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sting, Oscar Wilde, Catherine Zeta-Jones

Welcome the Astrology Sign of Libra

Usher raymond On September 24, 2010 the Sun enters the zodiac sign of Libra the Scales and welcomes a 31 day period of romance, flirtation, creativity, art and socialbility. Notably, Libra is the only sign that is represented by a machine. This makes they a little removed and unemotional but they sure know how to charge up the emotions of others signs because they are often beautiful and very charismatic.

(Usher Raymond has Sun in Libra)

Libras are into the arts and may work in creative fields. But even if they are accountants, they will find something creative about it. The are social butterflys and join all sorts of groups and organizations where they are welcomed and courted. They love to be in love and can be very romantic. They capture hearts and can attract anyone they set their mind to attract.

They have an easy attitude about money and are considered generous. But they don't often have much of it (because they spend so much of it) and wind up attracting generous friends and lovers. They are diplomats and seek harmony, balance and compromise. I would want a Libra at my negotiation table because they can make each side feel that they have won significant concessions from the other. Kumbaya.

Famous folks with Sun in Libra are:

Brigitte Bardot

Bruce Springsteen

Olivia Newton-John

Angie Dickenson

John Lennon

Rita Hayworth

Witchcraft Comments from the Past Haunt Tea Party Favorite Christine O'Donnell

Tea Party candidate Christine O'Donnell has sparked a controversy regarding her pro-pagan views. This is a problem? Apparantly so. Back in the 1990s, and before her Senate runs, she revealed that she dabbled in witchcraft, giving her supporters a bit of agita. Watch the tape ....

Venus Retrograde - Fall 2010 by Felissa Rose

Venus retrograde Guest blogger and expert astrologer Felissa Rose offers her insights intot he upcoming Venus retrograde on October 7, 2010:

 FALL 2010 VENUS RETROGRADE

Venus will be going retrograde on October 7, 2010 at 3:03 am EDT at 13 degrees 13 minutes of Scorpio.   It turns direct on November 18, 2010 at 4:17 pm EST at 27 degrees 40 minutes of Libra.

As the mythological goddess of love the planet Venus governs all relationships – romantic, platonic, aesthetic, and diplomatic.  Its influence is to beautify, harmonize and soften.  Without Venus there would be less refinement and more coarseness.

While retrograde the things Venus influences will be less evident or of diminished interest in the world.  Considerably decreased is the importance of our visual sensibilities.  People dress with less flair.  One’s color sense tends to be muted.  Now is not the time to purchase clothes or jewelry, experiment with new make-up, change your hair styles or color.  Bad hair days occur more often as well as “just not looking right.”  Don’t feel out of place if you go to a social occasion and wind up wearing the wrong thing.  Overdressed or undressed you won’t be alone.

During a Venus retrograde period, people will be less inclined towards balance and harmony.  One should avoid opening an artistic or musical show while Venus is retrograde, as individuals are less in touch with the outer expression of beauty and creativity. There’s more or a tendency to favor trashy entertainment especially some of the reality shows which follow the lives of the Kardashians, Levi Johnston, some former porno star or one of Hugh Hefner’s former girlfriends.

Social relationships are likely to proceed at a slower pace.  One is more likely to attend parties where everyone arrives late or leaves early. Or attending a pot luck dinner and bringing an appetizer when entrees are required or bringing an entrée and its all chips and dips.  Those getting married during this period will have their work cut out for them.  Venus rules harmony and newlyweds will have to try harder to obtain it at their weddings and throughout their marriage.

Venus rules diplomacy, so slowdowns in all sorts of negotiations can be expected, including labor unions, legal matters and world diplomacy.  Individuals and nations just won’t get it “right.”  Peace negotiations and cooperation will be even more difficult to achieve.

Avoid elective cosmetic surgery although the time when Venus is stationary, right before it goes retrograde is a plus for any kind of aesthetic procedure or beauty treatment.  Although Venus will no longer be retrograde after November 18 it would be best to wait until it comes to the degree where it went retrograde on (December 20], for any kind of beauty treatment although if you can’t wait until that optimum time after November 18 should be OK.

It is an excellent time to seek the beauty of the inner being by opening oneself up to spiritual harmony and such practices as relaxation and meditation.  I know an accomplished artist born with Venus retrograde whose spiritual awareness and inner beauty is evident in her paintings.  Venus retrograde doesn’t negate artistic awareness it just increases the inner stimulus for creating it.

Individuals born with this position seek an inner meaning in both beauty and harmony.  They feel it is not just how wearing a pair of earrings will look but what the inner meaning is in wearing them.  What does the gemstone signify does it have any healing properties.

Venus will be retrograde in Scorpio from October 8 through November 7 when it enters Libra.  Scorpio rules transformations including eliminations and removal of debris.  Generically speaking it would be a favorable time for cleansings and purges in the body as well as clearing out one’s material “stuff.”  Along with Taurus it governs money, but usually the money one can’t easily put one’s hands on, particularly that given to money managers or investment counselors. It’s not the time to take risks with one’s finances.

On November 7 through the end of the retrograde on November 18 and beyond Venus moves into Libra,  sign of harmony and relationships.  People become more cognizant of whom they are with or want to be with.  Ironing out differences can take a little work if you basically get along.  But if there are major issues and a counselor is called for, decisions and breakthroughs are more likely to occur after Venus goes direct.

When a planet is stationary, the time it is either about to go retrograde or direct in motion, its influence is most intense.   About a week or so either way, the world begins to wake up to Venus.  There can be a buying spree, increased releases of new musical material, a rash of parties and socializing, as well as the onset and development of romantic relationships.  Importantly progress can be made in the resolution of differences between individuals and nations.  The station occurs a few days before and after Venus changes directions.  But as mentioned before if you can stand it try waiting until Venus comes to the retrograde point on December 20 to do any major esthetics. Mercury will be retrograde from December 10 through the 30th, so if it’s something really important as cosmetic surgery or marriage and you want to get it right, it would be wise to wait until after that too.

Venus goes retrograde approximately every year and a half.  The next one begins on May 15, 2012 and ends on June 27, 2012.   So be forewarned if you or anyone you know is planning a wedding at that time.

ARIES   (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
A quick and exhausting romantic fling on the job has long term career implications for you, Ram. Are you prepared to take the hits as well as the opportunities as a result of your actions? If so, smooch away. If not, take a moment to savor the situation before you jump in. The water is deeper than you think. Well, at least you won’t hurt your head in the dive in.

TAURUS   (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
A long distance romance is in the cards if you are willing to expand your horizons into unchartered territory. Bulls with a sense of adventure will find it. And the results can be  satisfying and life altering. Of course if you are one of those  types who prefer to stay close to home, find new stimuli in your immediate neighborhood to feed your spicy pangs.

GEMINI   (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
Put out the effort to learn a new trick or two this week. Any classes or lectures can bring you into an entirely new circle of acquaintances. Who knows where things can proceed from there? The potential for a full scale loving relationship is there for the asking and taking. Twins are sociable. Turn on the charm and see who nips at your buds.

CANCER   (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Fun and frolic will have its unexpected payoffs. So drop what you are doing at work (or delegate what you can) and seek out more ways to relax, recharge and create. Crabs will not only expand their talents, they might also forge new relationships - both romantic and business related - that prove valuable in the coming months. Dollar-wise or just plain good sense?

LEO   (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
Home based projects will get a lift and a push this week. Lions may be perusing their domain and see that there are aspects of their home that need sprucing up. Prepare for a good cleaning and a feeling of refreshment and rejuvenation. That will be especially so if you can hire someone else to do the grunt work while you supervise.from a deck chair.

VIRGO   (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
Any delightful banter, any light hearted chit chat will help you to pave the way for a fall and winter season of invitations and parties. This is the week to turn up your charisma and get out there to show it all off. Virgins can get what they want by just asking for it. But ask for it quickly. Before you know it your gift of gab will go back into the gift box.

LIBRA   (SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 23)
Home improvements may be costly and landscape changing but ultimately worth it. Libras with a sense of flair can put it to good use to improve their environment. Go crazy for color and richness. Try a new “look”. Your home could become a beehive of family and friendly activity this fall and you will want bragging rights to fit the bill.

SCORPIO   (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
Your personality glitters and you find vast reserves of personal oil to gush and fuel your ascent. Get into the swing of things by reaching out to acquaintances and new constituencies. Spread yourself thin and make a mad rush into the center of the social swirl. Scorps can make their mark on the world now. The question is - Will it be a smudge or skid mark?

SAGITTARIUS   (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
There are things going on behind the scenes that might prove to be very financially profitable for you. Do you delve further or allow events to take their course? I don’t know. But it can’t hurt to keep your ear to the ground for any rumblings and ask careful and calculating questions to those who might know a thing or two. Do you know who that might be...?

CAPRICORN   (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
Friends in high places and even friends in not-so-high places can elevate your social standing and transform the way the world looks at you. Maybe they will kidnap you to the nearest personal advisor. Maybe they will gently guide you to an entirely new style. They have your best interests at heart. But do you really want to dress like Lady Gaga?

AQUARIUS   (JANUARY 21 - FEBRUARY 19)
Your ability to attain your professional goals may depend on heavy duty behind the scenes politicking. Are you up for all that intrigue Aquarius? If so, this is the time to get your glad handing going. If not, see if there are ways for you to schmooze by proxy - by getting a well placed friend to do it, for example. Delay and you will miss a rare opportunity.

PISCES   (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
Travel will bring with it a sense of adventure and a feeling of liberation and freedom. And in addition to purely personal fulfillment, you might also find yourself meeting and greeting an array of fascinating and exotic folks. If money and time are tight, find ways to expand your world closer to home. You won’t need to travel that far to get into mischief.
