Lucky Numbers for the Week of December 31, 2010

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But I think it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes.

So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....?

I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth.

Here are the lucky numbers for the week of December 31, 2010 - January 6, 2011. Let's see if we can start off our new year with a flourish!

4, 8, 27, 30, 33, 45, 76, 79

Hogue Prophecy Blog

John hogue John Hogue, an expert in Nostradamus, also hosts a very interesting blog called the Hogue Prophecy. As we wind down the year 2010 it is interesting to see his take on what to expect for 2011. He is controversial and opinionated  but that is what makes him so entertaining and interesting. Enjoy.

Fred Schaaf - Star Watch

Fred Schaaf is an astronomer and Star Watch columnist for The Press of Atlantic City. What I really like about his columns is he discusses astronomical placements as they fit into astrological signs and constellations which I can then use for my own astrological purposes.

His writing gives clues to aspects, placements and positions and he does so in an entertaining and easy to understand manner. Here is an example from one of his columns - "Giants at dawn: If you are an experienced amateur astronomer with a telescope, do not forget that today and all this week, the dawn sky will be blessed with a very close meeting of bright Jupiter and its fellow giant planet Uranus." Okay, so that means that Jupiter conjuncts Uranus. Good to know.

Schaaf is an author of many astronomy books as well as a great columnist.  Another thing that is good to know.

Cancer Myths Demystified

Smiling sun With the new year approaching it is always a good idea to jot down a few new years resolutions from eating healthier to stopping smoking. In the spirit of turning over a new leaf (or in this case leafy green) here is an interesting column from Self Magazine that might surprise you about cancer and cancer prevention. Some things in fact are very surprising - about bottled water and organic foods for example. Here are two of them. For the rest, click the link above:

These days, it seems like you can’t turn on the TV or surf the Web without coming across yet another new cancer report. It’s overwhelming and often confusing: For instance, one day we hear that wine is good for heart health, but the next we learn that too much is a risk factor for breast cancer. What to do but just drink a toast to luck? Seriously, who can keep up? All this back and forth raises a lot of questions for the editors here at SELF, and we figured it must have the same effect on our readers. So we asked women to send us their top cancer-related concerns, then took them to the experts for clarification. The good news: All that new research we keep hearing about, baffling though it may be, is yielding some clear—and reassuring—answers.

Q: I can’t always find—or afford—organic produce. How harmful are the pesticides in nonorganic foods?

A: People who consistently eat a diet high in fruit and vegetables have lower cancer risk—whether the produce is organic or not, according to David Katz, M.D., director of the Yale Prevention Research Center in New Haven, Connecticut. That said, Dr. Katz does think it makes sense to keep pesticide exposure to a minimum, because experts aren’t sure how—if at all—it affects cancer risk. About 3 percent of domestic products and 4 percent of imported products had pesticide levels of concern, according to a 2007 FDA report. Some items such as apples, bell peppers and spinach contain higher levels of pesticides than others, possibly because they have more permeable skin or more is taken in through their root systems, so use our shopping list the next time you hit the grocery store for guidance on when it’s best to opt for organic.

Q: I drink bottled water all the time, but I keep hearing that some bottles contain dangerous chemicals. Should I be worried?

A: In this case, it’s valid to be concerned. BPA, a chemical often found in plastic water and baby bottles and metal cans—even cash register receipts—has been linked to increased risk for breast cancer and heart disease. “BPA acts as a weak estrogen, which can spur the growth of cancerous cells,” says Hugh Taylor, M.D., professor of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences at Yale University Medical Center. Whenever possible, give plastic water bottles a pass and sip from glass or steel containers instead (I often choose a metal commuter cup); use baby bottles that are labeled BPA-free (fortunately these are widely available); and avoid plastics with the code 7 on the bottom—those are more likely to contain BPA. Also, opt for fresh or frozen foods instead of canned ones (most cans are lined with BPA-epoxy liner), and wash your hands after handling receipts.

ARIES   (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
Rams feel a surge of luck and opportunity early in 2011. You feel as if you can accomplish anything and everything. Go for it bubbele but know when to conserve your energy and just make your best possible plans. Your exuberance can steamroll corporate competitors but can just as easily roll on the toes of the big cogs. Or maybe that is the plan...?

TAURUS   (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
Expect the unexpected all through 2011, Bull. You can knock the socks off any hidden enemy and you won’t even realize your victory. So just keep doing what you are doing, think good thoughts and enjoy your surprising good luck as it comes. Before you know it you will make your big mark on the world. Gosh, I thought graffiti was illegal...?

GEMINI   (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
Friends are not only a source of fun but they are also very helpful to you in a myriad of ways. Need some advice, Twin? All you have to do is ask. Need some muscle? No problem. But money may become a source of friction if you let it get out of their hand and into yours. They say it is better to give than to receive. Ah but what do they know?

CANCER   (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Career opportunities take off into the stratosphere in 2011. There is nothing that you cannot do once you put your mind to it. Aim for the top of the heap before partners begin to feel left out. Soon life could become a big balancing act where you have to figure out how much time you can reasonably devote to each of your life’s passions. Is it lonelier at the top or the bottom?

LEO   (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
Expand your vistas, Lion. Itchy paws must be scratched and what better place to do that than in some faraway exotic paradise? Slowly though, through the weeks, the nitty gritty details of the job start to get their claws in you. Is it possible to disentangle yourself from the boring and mundane so you can soar to the heights. Let’s just see how you can do that...

VIRGO   (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
Virgins have a certain sex appeal that lasts and lasts. You sizzle and fry. See who you can lure into your frying pan. The trick for you will be to decide who is the ultimate one from a field of thousands. The entire year could be one incredible romance after another. Be choosy, be discerning and take your time. Its a dirty job but someone has to do it.

LIBRA   (SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 23)
Bring relationships to a new level in 2011. Libras who ache to meet their match will not only have ample opportunities but also fairly good choices. For those who are part of a pair, it is possible to improve on the bliss level. Set ground rules as things get more serious. If you decide to upend your living accommodations you want to be sure that it is the right move.

SCORPIO   (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
Success is built detail by detail. So this year you have the rare chance to attend to every nit picky detail to build your empire. The only thing that could derail you is a loose lip or a careless comment. Other than that, it is all up to you. Focus and don’t delegate this delicate work. Get hands on experience. Hey watch where you put those hands, honey!

SAGITTARIUS   (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
Fun whips up to a frenzy all through 2011. Archers with a sense of adventure and mayhem can get into loads of lovely trouble without even trying. It is also a creative year for you. Dip into your art pot and see what you can stir up. But don’t waste money on worthless trinkets and trashy hangers on.... unless that is part of your creative process.

CAPRICORN   (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
Cocooning Caps find new ways to enjoy their home. Maybe this means that you will move to some luxurious spiffy new palace or maybe it means that you spruce up your current crib. Whatever you do, be sure that it is a reflection of you - your personal tastes and sense of style. Perhaps so much so that family starts to beat a path to your door. Uh oh.

AQUARIUS   (JANUARY 21 - FEBRUARY 19)
You have the gift of gab, the golden touch and that certain je ne sais quois, Aquarius. Can you master your mouth and make it work to your advantage? Before you get into trouble, think carefully of what you want to say and who you should say it to. You may inadvertently blurt out a secret or deliver an accidental insult. Why is this year different from any other year?

PISCES   (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
Money seems to come to you effortlessly through 2011. Pisces with a need to acquire, find that they have the funds to buy themselves what they want. Soon pals get into the act and realize that you could be a soft touch. Will you be swayed by a series of sob stories? It is okay to pass the occasional box of tissues but draw the line at the cash box.
