Predictions by Statistics - February

Predict Those of us who adhere to the new age find ways to forecast the future via astrology, tarot, runes, i-ching and many other forms of divination. But for scientists, only hard fast statistics will do. The New York Post had an interesting article about forecasting 2011 using statistics and through the next year, I will post their predictions as their dates of destiny approaches. Let's see how well the numbers folks do vs the spiritual folks. If you can't wait, check out the full article here.

FEBRUARY: Most likely to get engaged Wondering when he’s finally going to pop the question, ladies? According to Mislove and Lehmann’s Twitter study, there are spikes around Valentine’s Day (no surprise there!) and the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. Start saving up, gentlemen — some of you might have a big purchase to make soon!

ARIES   (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
February is a whirlwind of social activity for Aries who are hot to trot a lot. What will happen when you get the gang together? Mischief ensues! But as you glide along with your guest list, expand your realm of influence by meeting new folks. And that may mean running with the herd for while instead of leading it. There is time to crack the whip next month. Ouch!!

TAURUS   (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
Corporate sharks may try to take a bite out of you but you are well prepared to bite back. Bulls who hanker to rule the roost can prepare their big move now. All clever career calculations hit their mark when even the heaviest political push is forgiven and applauded. But be discreet in your maneuverings. Don’t make it too apparent that you are the heir apparent.

GEMINI   (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
Twins take to the road or the high seas to seek adventure and affirmation. Good! February provides the energy, the curiosity and the dreams of romantic glory. There might be some surprises at work that cause you to reassess what you are doing and where you are in the food chain. Contemplate your fate on some faraway beach while sipping cocktails.

CANCER   (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Passion plays are in the stars for you this Valentines month. So strut your stuff and show the world how alluring you can be. Crabs with a yen for a certain taste can find it on the sexual tasting menu. And you look like a blue plate special yourself. The secret to your valentines success is to be discreet and discerning. Oh well, you can’t have everything!

LEO   (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
Relationships take center stage for you - from getting them to holding them. Expect partners to be feisty and fun. For those  Lions on the prowl for new connections, it is possible to locate some likely prey in places that are far afield from home - even internationally located. So if domestic bliss is not in the stars, maybe some hot foreign tawdry times are.

VIRGO   (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
Virgos are especially efficient this February and are tempted to burn the midnight oil at work. But all work and no work-out makes you sluggish and dull. Change the dynamic, get off your office chair and hire a personal trainer to hone your bod in time for cruise season. Fairly soon all those valentines sweets look sweet on you. And won’t that be a nice change of pace!

LIBRA   (SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 23)
Libras enjoy a festive party or three this  February. You will have your choice of a range of raucus and fun playdate options. But it won’t be all chaste hand holding and platonic merry making. Get ready - The dance music revs up, the energies ratchet up and Valentine’s Day promises to bring more spice than sugar to your bowl. Stir briskly.

SCORPIO   (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
If you have an itch to revamp your surroundings to something more .. ahem.. daring, then scratch away! Scorpios may decide to go with a jungle motif or antique bordello. Friends and family may criticize you. But so what? Remember - Whatever your personal taste, your home has to reflect the real you ... no matter how much the colors clash.

SAGITTARIUS   (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
Archers tell it like it is and are not above complaining when they feel neglected. But instead of stirring the waters and creating an unintended tidal wave of kvetch, why not mellow out and concentrate on finding your artistic muse this Valentine’s month? Relax, have fun and be mellow. You achieve great heights of creative genius ... or at least you think so.

CAPRICORN   (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
Capricorns feel especially generous and can spread their largess all through February. Your heart is in the right place. Now put your finances in the right place too. Do your research, ask the right questions and take calculated action. Then corner the market on good profitable investment ideas. They say wealth is intoxicating. Feel the buzz.

AQUARIUS   (JANUARY 21 - FEBRUARY 19)
Aquarians have a way of bursting on the scene this February. Be careful not to knock over the scenery! This is a great month to meet new people and expand your contact list. You can make a wonderful first impression and a memorable imprint on others. All these efforts place you right where you want to be. Err and where exactly is that?

PISCES   (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
Karma shines and good fortune can come to you this February. Charitable actions lead to huge rewards so volunteer for a worthy gay cause (is there any other?) and prepare for a warm cosmic pat on the back. Pisces can plan a Valentine’s tete a tete. If you can’t get a couple of tetes together, try a luxurious bubble bath and a bottle of champagne instead.

Lucky Numbers for Week of January 28, 2011

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But I think it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes.

So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....?

I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth.

Here are the lucky numbers for the week of January 28-February 3, 2011:

7, 34, 35, 48, 51, 59, 66, 73

There are many ways to delve into your own consciousness to find luck and intuition. Try reading Dream Power/Improve Your Luck (Super Strength Series) and see if your dreams give you any clues and premonitions. Here's a guide to the best books available this month

Superstitions and Other Bird Thoughts

Halloween flamingos Today a bird flew into our door window and I felt a shudder of superstitious fear. I recalled that when a bird flies into a house or hits the door or window that it could portend something terrible. In hoping that I was wrong, I began to search superstition sites and I found a great one that I would like to share. Haunted Hamilton is a great site that offers a list of different superstitions and even some background as to where they came from.

So as for the bird, which was black, brown and white and recuperated after its hit and flew away, the superstitions are --

  • A bird that flies into a house foretells an important message. However, if the bird dies, or is white, this foretells death.
  • Signs of Impending Doom - Birds flying into a house or banging against the window.

Of course Snopes always likes to weigh in on this. And I did find an encouraging reading apropos of a bird flying into a window again on Keen:

Bird Flies at the Window, Death Knocks at the Door? Re-posted by Request. I've heard this ominous saying for years, and it still sends chills over my body. My question, however, is what does it really mean when a bird flies at your window? Not just once, but again and again? My sister told me months ago about a little red bird that has been flying at her window every day, sometimes a dozen times. When he isn't hitting the window, he is perched on the arm of a patio chair, and it was at the point where she was really becoming concerned because she, too, had heard the ominous phrase.

I finally did a reading for her and was told that this bird was there to protect her, and he was also warning her of potential danger. Clearly, not a death, but just telling her to be aware of potential dangers around her. She took the warning to heart, took extra care to avoid accidents around the home, and she even went so far as to have a security system installed. Three days after having the system in place, she was awakened to the screeching sound of the security alarm, and found someone attempting to open her downstairs door. Fortunately the police were called out and the intruder was apprehended. Coincidence? I think not, and neither does she.

Her bird has since stopped flying into the window, but he still sits on the chair, her little guardian angel, watching over her. My point in all of this? Be aware that our Guardian Angels take many forms, and I believe that their attempts to get our attention will continue and become stronger until we get the message. So don't force the little bird to break your window. Be aware of the sights and sounds, the seen and the unseen around us, because the protection and the message is always there.

Astrology By the Glass - Aquarius

Aquarius There are twelve of these "Astrology By the Glass" posts coming up over the next few months which describes each astrology sign's drinking habits and preferences. I found this in my file of favorite columns from various authors and sources. Unfortunately there is no byline and I have no idea who wrote this. So if you know who, please let me know and I will give full credit and a link. After reading this, check out The Intoxicated Zodiac for recipes by sign. Cheers!

AQUARIUS (Januray 21 - February 19)

Drinking style: Aquarius and drinking don't go together that well (except for water, that is). They have an innate tendency toward know-it-allism, and if they get an idea while sizzled, they're more stubborn than a stain or a stone. If they're throwing a party or organising an outing, however, they're too preoccupied with their duties to get combative -- and they make perfectly charming drunks in that case. Fortunately, they're usually capital drink-nursers. They also make the best designated drivers (if you can get them before they start raising their wrist): Aquarius is fascinated by drunk people and capable of holding interesting conversations with soused strangers while sober.

Trademark cocktails: Aquarius is likely to order stuff most people have never heard of: a capirinha, Satan's whiskers, a negroni, an Arthur Tompkins. They like to stump the bartender. This sign rules the colour electric blue and would be pleased by any tipple featuring blue curacao. They also rule the olive tree, so pour the juice into that dirty martini.

Drinking buddies: Jennifer Aniston, Ellen DeGeneres, Dr. Dre, Matt Groening, Ashton Kutcher, Ronald Reagan, Christina Ricci, Justin Timberlake, Oprah Winfrey, Elijah Wood
