Predictions by Statistics - Spring and Summer

If you believe as I do that astrology is another form of personality profiling, then you might also believe that regular math and statistics can also help to predict the future. Here are some Spring and Summer statistical predictions of human behavior as reported in the New York Post. This data was culled from various scientific sources:

APRIL, MAY, OCTOBER: Most likely to volunteer. The spring and fall see a spike in tweets regarding volunteering — particularly at the start of April, beginning of May and early October, while summertime is quieter, according to Mislove and Lehmann’s data. “It may have to do with folks vacationing,” Lehmann says about why the summer is a quieter time for volunteering. *

SUMMER: When men and women are likely to cheat Keep a close eye on your man during the summer, ladies — he’s more likely to shack up with another woman during the warm, balmy summer months. Kruger attributes this to several factors, including the hot weather. “It can be based on a combination of opportunities,” Kruger says. “[For example,] people are more likely to be traveling on the summer holidays.” Is your gal pal going on vacay with the girls? Beware. Women are also more prone to cheating on their fellas when they’re on annual leave. “People are not normally in their stable environments and are more likely to be on the beach, scantily clad in their swimsuits,” Kruger says. *

Horoscope for Month of March 2011 and Week of March 28, 2011

ARIES   (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
If your relationships have had their rocky periods, this week may not necessarily bring peace and quiet. But you can make an extra effort to listen carefully to partner’s complaints and desires. Hopefully you will not confuse the two! Rams on the lookout for connection may find a few short circuits along the way. But maybe that is the spark you need to start a fire?

TAURUS   (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
Daily tasks and assorted work projects might seem especially dreary and boring. Call it spring fever but you may feel that you need to break free from the hum drum and drum up some real adventure beyond the office politics. Good luck, Bull. The fates may find a way to tie you to your desk anyway. If so, find clever ways to delegate and take a looong lunch.

GEMINI   (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
No matter how hard you try to be artistic and funny, you experience creative blockage. Twins ache to be in the center of the party scene but may have trouble getting beyond the velvet rope. This is a temporary lapse and is nothing to worry about. Chalk it up to stress. Find ways to calm down and relax with close compadres. Stop trying to make a public statement.

CANCER   (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Relatives may not listen to reason. Instead of feeling frustrated, try to take some time off from your familial diplomatic venture and turn your attention to home based projects. Of course, there could be some projects that involve critical thinking and very detailed work. Leave those for another time. Focus instead on the big picture,.. maybe like a big screen tv....?

LEO   (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
Although you always have some great ideas brewing, this may not be the time to express them in any meaningful way. No one is really listening and Lions may find that they are not getting their point across effectively. No matter. There will soon be plenty of time to make your mark in the world. Make it in big swirly shapes and not in small smudges.

VIRGO   (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
Although financial issues are important to you, it will be hard to focus on them or implement any fiscally responsible program at this time. This does not mean however that you can spend frivolously or squander your bundle. It really means that you need to be extra careful all month with your expenses and stick to a budget. Virgos with gumption can buy a bigger pool in May.

LIBRA   (SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 23)
You are given your moment in center stage. The lights dim, the spotlight shines brightly upon you and the crowd quiets down in anticipation of what you will say. Errr now what? Think carefully before you speak, Libra. You want your message to hit them where they live and not put them to sleep. Of course lulling the crowd may be a good takeover technique after all....

SCORPIO   (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
All this behind the scenes scuttlebutt may mean something important or it may just be general static. And I am not sure that you will be able to tell this difference now. So before you zap folks with your Scorpion tail, give yourself enough time to carefully listen and then consider your options. If you wait, things may just clear up on their own. 

SAGITTARIUS   (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
Archers are happy to be in the center of the social swirl and loooove to gossip. But let’s face it, you are not that much in love with gossip about yourself. If you hear that there is a juicy story afoot, try to steer clear of any value judgements lest these judgements wind up on your doorstep now. Stay out of the social fray and let others do the careless chit chat... for a change.

CAPRICORN   (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
Even though you may be angling for a big promotion at work, this is not the time to push for it. Caps need to exert extra patience on any career issue. There are some things that you simply cannot push along. Of course this could mean that it is a great time for a vacation or a long lunch or whatever gets you away from your desk. No names please!

AQUARIUS   (JANUARY 21 - FEBRUARY 19)
Travel may go awry. Aquarians think that they have everything planned out to the letter but the fates are plotting to make it much more of an adventure for you. Tickets may be lost, luggage re-routed and delays abound. But anticipating this is part of the solution. Go with the flow so you don’t wind up like flotsam on some sandy shore. Unless that is the plan....

PISCES   (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
Words of love may fall flat on your intended receiver. But don’t let that dissuade you from pursuing your heart’s desire. They do say that actions speak louder than words so if your heart sings, show it rather than belt it. Pisces are now totally hopeless romantics. Some folks find that endearing rather than pathetic. Toujours l’amour!

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But I think it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes.

So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....?

I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth.

Better Communication to Extra Terrestrials

There are many ways to communicate into space. And now scientists are recommending a standardized way to communicate with extra terrestrials by building an extraterrestrial messaging protocol, so any spacebound communiqué could be easily understood.

A METI protocol — messaging to extraterrestrial intelligence — would include several factors, including signal encoding, message length and message content such as using two specific wavelengths for transmission: 1.42 GHz or 4.46 GHz, which are commonly observed in nature and relatively easy to capture, in case the ETs only have “modest technical capabilities.” They also recommend establishing a dedicated transmission beacon to conduct regular broadcasts.

To ensure this, they propose a worldwide test of the new METI protocol, figuring that if people across cultures can understand it, a basic ET might, too. International users could create and exchange messages through an interactive website, following the protocol to create a crowdsourced ideal message.
