The October 2014 Mercury Retrograde by Felissa Rose

A big thank you to astrologer Felissa Rose for this great overview of the impact of the October 2014 Mercury retrograde:

OCTOBER 2014 MERCURY RETROGRADE

For the final time in 2014 Mercury will be going retrograde at 1:03 pm on Saturday Oct 4 in 2 degrees
17 minutes of Scorpio It returns to direct motion Saturday Oct 25 at 3:18 pm EDT in 16 degrees 49
minutes of Libra.

Information, communication, words, language and connections are ruled by Mercury. During this
periods thoughts become internalized and processed repeatedly making it more difficult to be decisive
and take action. But then indecision is a decision. So if possible slow down, take it easy, reassess and
listen. And if possible avoid signing contracts. Missing details in the fine print can create difficulties
later on. Your mind is still working and when Mercury is no longer retrograde inspiration can strike
you with some brilliant insights. All kinds of connections including those with other individuals will
occur more easily after the retrograde.

In the body Mercury, along with Uranus rules the nervous system. Mercury also governs the eyes,
lungs, diaphragm, shoulders, arms, hands and fingers. Retrograde energy is internalized and these
areas are more sensitive during its retrograde. Unless it's an emergency try not to schedule diagnostic
tests including an eye exam. The results could be different after the retrograde and there's more of a
chance of your results getting mixed up with someone else's.

When Mercury, the ruler of circuits, and tubes, is retrograde it isn't the best time to purchase
technological or electrical equipment including machinery and cars. If you have to get a replacement
make sure you get an extended warranty for you're likely to need it.

We're here to learn and Mercury retrograde periods are great for looking at and understanding ourselves
and the world we live in, They're favorable for keeping a journal, writing down thoughts and
reevaluating one's life and experiences. Maybe it isn't as worldly as other times but important in itself.

Mercury will be retrograde next from January 21 to February 11, 2015.

ARIES   (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
Aries like to feel in control of their destiny, but how much control can you wield when so much of the ground below you shimmers and shivers your timbers? Strong emotions abound and your sensitivity is high. You might become wound up in intense longing, strong desires and overall feistiness. How do you spell relief? V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N.

TAURUS   (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
Try not to put too many demands or restrictions on certain relationships. It will not get you want you want and may even bring you the opposite. Your grip may become too tight and cloying for partners and would-be partners. Try instead to stay calm and cool, Taurus. Before you know it you can attract the pick of the litter, but only if you are into trash....

GEMINI   (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
Even if you wanted to take more time off from work, it will be hard to do so now. That is because the demands of the job make you feel like a rat on an ever accelerating treadmill. There will be time to jump off the track in a few weeks, Gemini. Meanwhile find ways of lowering your stress either by delegating the tasks you can delegate or omm’ing to yoga at night.

CANCER   (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Ha cha cha, Cancer. The social circuit heats up to a frazzle and includes you in the charge. You become party central incarnate for the next few weeks. So grab the mantle, get your fests together and conjure up a fabulous time or five. But is it possible that you will overdo, over imbibe and over party to become a dissipated shell of a Crab? Well that is the plan!

LEO   (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
Your home is a beehive of activity now so don’t be sad, surprised or feeling lonely if you can’t get out of your front door. In fact, Leo, the jolly masses come to you and stir up a hornets nest of fun times. Of course you can always put them to work to improve your humble abode and transform it into a palace. How about a painting party? Or not.

VIRGO   (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
Virgos become veritable chatterboxes now They can’t seem to keep a secret or hold back on their desire to gossip. But choose your words carefully lest you cause undue stress and social rumblings. There is time to open up the curtain and take a peek. Just modulate your message and present it sensibly to willing and responsible ears. No, not the blogosphere.

LIBRA   (SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 23)
Libras become spendthrifts - everything they see they want. This is not a bad thing if you have the cash to toss but avoid getting into debt over your head for things that can best be described as ornamental junk. (And that goes for people too...) Stick to the gold standard and see if you can mine your treasures to gain the greatest benefit... or even profit?

SCORPIO   (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
You are in the epicenter of all the action. You are the star and the supernova to which all heavenly beings gravitate. You have the ability to sway hearts and minds. Now what Scorpio? Will you be able to harness all of this power, prestige and personality into one large personal gain? I guess we will have to see. Be sure to ask, “Trick or treat?”

SAGITTARIUS   (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
There is so much going on behind the scenes that some of the intrigue may spill over into the spotlight. Are you ready, Sagittarius? Keep your suave aplomb (or find some) as all of your best kept secrets become public. At any rate it will be good for the soul and liberate you from any gloomy goblins keeping you down. Just in time for Halloween!

CAPRICORN   (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
Your social calendar goes into overdrive and you might find yourself (shudder!) turning down inviting invitations. Everything seems so much fun! But Capricorn, you cannot dance at two event with just one tush. Make the hard decisions and stick to them. It may even make you more enticing - sometimes playing hard to get makes folks ... well you know.

AQUARIUS   (JANUARY 21 - FEBRUARY 19)
Put your nose to the grindstone and carefully craft your corporate ascent. You have ample ambition, passion for success and opportunity based on your previous strategic outlook. Plan it carefully and strategically. And be very sure that you are focused on the right goal for you. Aquarians will take no prisoners until they get what they want. Then .. heh.. heh.

PISCES   (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
If there was ever a time to plan and take a vacation this is it. So get your gear together, check out the who, what, where, when and how and get going! Pisces yearn to swim in bigger seas and explore exotic islands. There is a lot to learn and many experiences to enjoy. Your mind is open and clear .. for a change. Learn a thing or two while you are at it.

Lucky Numbers for the Week of September 26, 2014

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes. So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....?

I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth.

Here are the lucky numbers for the week of September 26-October 2, 2014:

2, 17, 22, 34, 47, 56, 57, 71

There are many ways to delve into your own consciousness to find luck and intuition. Try reading Dream Power/Improve Your Luck (Super Strength Series) and see if your dreams give you any clues and premonitions. Here's a guide to the best books available this month

Second Saturn Return Ages 57-60

SaturnI am sharing a wonderful article on the Second Saturn Return by Judy Tsafrir.

It offers a wonderful overview of the transit and will hopefully guide you if you are currently approaching your Second Saturn Return.

Cycles are at the heart of the human experience. In New England the seasons change dramatically and rapidly, yet seamlessly blend into one another. Similarly seasons define the developmental process of our lives; infancy, childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, the middle years, the elder years, culminating in death of the physical body. Each epoch unfolds predictably, sequentially and inexorably unless interrupted prematurely. And each is characterized by certain stage specific maturational tasks and experiences.

The Sun, Moon and planets all have their cycles too. We are familiar with the Moon’s orbit around the Earth; 29 days or a month. The Earth’s orbit around the Sun; 365 days or a year. But all the other planets have their own periodicity as well. Saturn takes approximately 29 years to travel around the Sun and arrive back at the exact point it was when you were born. The average human life span can be divided by the Saturn cycle into three stages, birth to 29, 29 to 58 and 58 until 87 or death. All of the planets are linked with particular archetypal aspects of human experience. Saturn is thematically linked with time and maturation, credibility, experience and the wisdom of the elders, responsibility, duty, authority and alignment with universal laws.

Many patients appear in my practice when they are 28 or 29 years old, at the time of their first Saturn Return. It’s a time when many young people feel an urgent need to figure something out about their lives. In our culture there is acceptance that a 24 or 25 year old may still be searching, perhaps feeling a bit lost, still experimenting. But when they reach 28 or 29, it is no longer as appropriate to feel so uncertain and undecided about partnership, children, career or direction. There is a developmental pressure at that time to finally leave childhood behind and become a responsible adult and contributing member of society.

Similarly at the Second Saturn return the developmental pressure is felt again. This time it is linked with an awareness of mortality. Saturn slows you down and forces you to take a long hard look at reality. How much time do you have left? How do you want to spend it? There really is no time left for procrastinating, otherwise time will be up and those books will never be written or paintings painted. Ironically as time the remaining time diminishes, subjectively it passes with ever increasing speed.

The Second Saturn Return is a time of life review and soul searching. How did you get here? Is this really where you want to be? Often it represents a cross roads of sorts, and an opportunity to deal at last with unfinished business. Sometimes this means getting rid of people, jobs and situations that no longer fit who you are or want to be. There is a taking stock that can culminate in a kind of purging and reordering of your life. This death of the old way of doing things can be painful, but subsequently there is often a feeling of relief and gratitude that you are no longer stuck in circumstances that no longer served you.

Saturn is also known as the Lord of Karma or Lord of the Harvest. You will reap what you sowed. It is a time when hard work will be rewarded, but if there has been neglect or carelessness, the natural consequences will not be able to be avoided.

Saturn asks you to claim your authority, to step up to the plate. It is inappropriate to wait for someone else to do it.

In my own case, I am 57 years old and just on the cusp of my Second Saturn Return. I am thinking about letting my hair go grey. There is less of an investment in vanity and more in spiritual wisdom. I am accepting invitations to do public speaking, even though it makes me want to cry and throw up. It feels more important to share my thoughts and make my contribution, than to give into shyness at this late date.

I am writing about Astrology, even though there are few subjects in our culture more generally viewed with contempt. But Saturn is asking me to make a contribution and give voice to what I believe is true, and to write about what is important to me and on my mind. I have no idea how Astrology works, but empirically I observe that it does, and it provides an invaluable context for making sense of our experience, guidance for making choices that are most meaningful and a perspective on ourselves and others that promotes compassion and understanding.

One of the most common regrets that people voice at the end of their lives is that they did not sufficiently honor their own truth, that they lived in accordance with other’s expectations or internal “shoulds” instead of their heart. The Second Saturn return is often not an easy passage, but it is rich with opportunity to re-create our lives in order to have the most meaningful and vibrant remaining years, so that when we are on our death beds looking back, we can sigh and say, “Ah, that was a life well lived.”

Ask Madam Lichtenstein - How Can I Improve My Love Life Using Astrology?

Tarot reader 1Dear Madam Lichtenstein: My birth date is 06-feb-1993. so my sign is Aquarius. But my week is not going well.  You wrote that romance in the air for Aquarians. But I am experiencing nothing like that. What is the reason? And I am trying to understand my horoscope but I don't know my birth time. Can I still know my correct horoscope?

Madam Lichtenstein says: My weekly horoscopes are general but can give you a clue as to the opportunity for love. We would need your birth time to  see where in your chart you can improve your love. So if Venus (the planet of love) is transiting your 1st house, you could find romance by meeting new people or starting a new project. In the 11th house it could be by travel or broadening your horizons like taking a class. In the 11th hosue it could be through friends. If you don't know your birth time we could approximate but there is nothing as accurate as knowing your birth time - maybe it is on your birth certificate?
