So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Witchcraft Museum in Cleveland, Ohio

The Witchcraft Museum, located not far from downtown Cleveland, started in Long Island, New York. As reported in AtlasObscura:

It was the mid-1960s, and Raymond Buckland, leader of what became known as the Long Island Coven, had been collecting historical witchcraft objects, oddities, and occult paraphernalia for years. He amassed hundreds of pieces, and with shelves bursting he eventually moved into larger quarters, opening the Buckland Museum of Witchcraft and Magick.

That collection has now landed in a new home, inside a vintage record shop near downtown Cleveland. Buckland had been inspired by his mentor Gerald Gardner, and the gallery has many objects originally owned by the father of “Gardnerian” Wicca. Alongside are items from the Salem Witch Trials, Egyptian funerary figurines called “ushabtis,” and artifacts owned by magicians, astrologers, fortune tellers, and pagan community elders.

In addition to being a coven leader, Buckland was a busy writer and lecturer on the move, and his collection came along with him. Over the years it lived in New Hampshire, came through some legal disputes in New Orleans, and eventually ended up in storage in Columbus, Ohio. Now, with a new curator and small gallery to show it off, it has been reborn as the Buckland Gallery of Witchcraft and Magick.

Although space is limited, a large portion of the collection is on display. There’s even room for the Demon in a Box, captured by Buckland in the 1970s with the help of a ceremonial magician.

Unlikely Places to Go to Restore Your Luck

Kavya Ram Mohan writes that there are places all over the world where you can go to get luckier - whether in love, work or whatever.

If you’re ever walking along the main thoroughfare of the old town in Dubrovnik, don’t be alarmed if you see people attempting to perform acrobatics on what looks like a small stone ledge. You’ve come across the Dubrovnik Maskeron, the gargoyle head that brings luck in love to those who can successfully take their shirt off while balancing on it.

Once just a normal drain pipe, today the Maskeron is a place people flock to for a shot of good luck. It’s one in a long list of otherwise unremarkable spots that have gained fame for improving the fortunes of those who visit, a list that includes such unlikely objects as pig bellies, dried llama fetuses, and Abraham Lincoln’s nose. 

These locales have become talismans in our pursuit of the fleeting and capricious Lady Luck, and our faith in their powers is reinforced by the success stories that visitors pass on across generations. Some of these places were created lucky, some achieved luck, but most have had luck thrust upon them. You may need to hop, balance, rub, hammer, kiss, or dance to get it, but if these places provide half the good fortune they claim, it should be well worth the effort.
