Practical Astrology

Every discipline has a bunch of things to learn and astrology is one of them. Adding to the basics are a lot of conventions that sometimes intersect and sometimes contradict. I like to keep things simple.

When I am asked to interpret a chart, I don't bother with things like "secondary progressions" or asteroids or Parts of Fortune or Parts of Marriage etc. I keep it to the essentials and one of two extras. Like, for example, I love using the Vertex which is the power center of a chart.

So using my basic philosophy, here are some ways that I astrology in everyday practical matters:

1. Avoiding the Void of Course Moon. I never make big decisions when the moon is Void of Course. That is a time when our thinking is foggy and when we can make decisions that we later regret. Here is a link to a Void of Course Moon chart.

2. Understanding that my communication will be faulty when Mercury is retrograde. Mercury Retrograde causes mishaps in communication. A phone call is missed. An email goes astray. We say something that we later regret. For me, when Mercury is retrograde I am especially careful of what I say. I second guess what I think and I always follow-up on important paperwork to be sure it was received and acknowledged.

3. I never make big decisions during an Eclipse for the same reason as for the two situations above because we are not thinking clearly.

That is the full extent of my daily uses of general astrology. Everything else is attached to my specific birthchart having to do with which planets are transiting my chart at the time.

Horoscope for the Week of September 30, 2019

Both Saturn and Pluto redirect form a wonderful aspect to the Sun, Mercury and Venus. Life becomes more passionate and intense over the next week. Use this time to enhance your surroundings, reach out to others and build your good karmic energies. Wow!

ARIES (MARCH 21 - APRIL 20)
There will be the temptation to add a little lust to your future plans. If you are in the center of the corporate scrum, find ways of charging up your career, adding some oomph to your day to day responsibilities and implementing some long term plans for future success. Aries now have extra power to get things done. Turn it onto yourself and soar with the eagles.

TAURUS (APRIL 21 - MAY 21)
If you want more out of a certain relationship, it’s time to speak up. Taureans hate to complain but sometimes a calm word or two can greatly improve a situation. For those seeking someone new, you may want to look further afield and in some unique or unusual locations. You never know who is waiting for you in some secret hideaway. Whoo hoo!

GEMINI (MAY 22 - JUNE 21)
You are especially sexy now, Gemini. Use what you have to get what and who you want. There will be opportunities to learn more about yourself and what you need in another person. Who knows, your best hunting ground my be closer than you think. Is there something perking by the coffee machine at work? They may want to work closely with you. Ahem.

CANCER (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Probably one of the most difficult feats is trying to balance the needs of others with your need for self expression. Happily this week brings you greater insight into what you need to do to achieve this balance. Cancers can feel more in tune with their world and can express themselves through creative projects. Let relationships fit into you and not the other way around.

LEO (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
Leos who have been feeling under the weather will get a jolt of renewed energy now. Use it to finally finish off long deferred projects around the house. Have an interest in redecorating? Need a change of venue? Everything is now possible. You just have to get out of your lethargy and get moving ...even if its just some furniture across the room.

VIRGO (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
Virgos not only know how to throw the best parties now, they can create an environment of congeniality and conversation with a mixed bag of folks. You have some great ideas. So get your best diplomatic talents together and see who you can invite who can help you change the world. Okay, maybe not the entire world but just your corner of it.

LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 24 - OCTOBER 23)
Family issues bubble up and Libras are the best equipped to fix them now. Don’t let domestic issues cause you to defer your personal plans and needs. You now understand what is important to others and have enough shared values (and personal history) to foster better understanding. Throwing a little money at a certain situation couldn’t hurt either!

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
Tell it like it is, Scorpio. Your words not only pack a punch now, they also move mountains and changed minds. This week should put you in a prime position to make a big splash among important and influential people. Get your plans ready, get your speech prepared. Now find the best venue to meet, greet and sweep people off their feet. Whoo hoo!

SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
So much is swirling around in the background that you may not notice how much others are working on your behalf, Sagittarius. So now is the time to stop the static and take a deep breath. Survey your landscape and see where you can benefit with less effort because the wind is at your back and the spirits are benign. There will be time for work later. For now, coast.

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
If you have some big plans that require a well positioned friend or two, this is the time to make your move. Capricorns feel released and able to move freely. Momentous times are ahead where your hard life lessons can be put to good us and your inner strength comes to the fore, Get involved in a new organization or big movement. You will ride the wave.

AQUARIUS (JANUARY 21 - FEBRUARY 19)
Don’t let your secrets hold you back from doing what you need to do, Aquarius. Suddenly you find that all of your career plans are in need of assessment and possible redirection. The bosses are watching, the timing is right. Will you get the power and responsibility that you desire to do what you want to do professionally? Sure! But don’t get bogged down by gremlins..

PISCES (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
What do you get when you mix friends and travel? Great adventure! Pisces can get out of their hum drum routine and explore the world with others. Or, at least, rely on their advice as to which are the best places to visit. You don’t even have to travel far to get that happy jolt of discovery. Sometimes a social gathering will get those juices flowing.

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes. So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....?

I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of of wealth.

Geminis have a full social calendar where they can show off their flirty skills. You have a choice of parties. How to choose? Go with those that enable you to showcase your personal flair and artistry. Maybe that means performance art or decorating the venue. What you achieve now will cement you as the one to know for holiday season festivities.

CANCER (JUNE 22 - JULY 23)
Whatever home decorating ideas you have should be implemented now. Not only do you have especially good design sense, you also know how to maximize your budget. Family members may even pitch in and help you with the work. Cancers on the move may find the perfect spot. But be sure you have enough room for all of your future visitors!

LEO (JULY 24 - AUGUST 23)
You certainly have the gift of gab now and can form compelling arguments and intense conversations with anyone and everyone. Leos seem to know just what to say to get exactly what and who they want. But the real issue here is, do you know what you want? There may be too many great choices. When in doubt, listen more and talk less...

VIRGO (AUGUST 24 - SEPTEMBER 23)
Virgos who are usually fairly careful with their money may now be tempted to spread a little green joy around town. That is all good as long as it fits into your budget and you know that you will not waste any drop. Review what you’ve got and strategize how to get more of it. Whatever you have been thinking of doing, you should start to do. Maximize this opportunity to put some of your personal projects into place. Long term goals can be achieved if you focus on them and push them forward.

SCORPIO (OCTOBER 24 - NOVEMBER 22)
Scorpios are known to be a bit intuitive. And now, your ability to discern the motivations of others is in high gear. So apply your knowledge to benefit not only yourself but also your loved ones. You may want to try some meditation to bring on the thoughts and ideas or find other ways to totally de-stress and relax. Inspiration comes in moments of quiet.

SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 23 - DECEMBER 22)
Any quality time spent hanging around with friends will elevate your mood and help you to strengthen important connections to others. There is power in groups, Sagittarius. So form new ones, gather old ones and get creative with the participants. You are in top platonic form and may be elected the social director. If so, oh do you have a big surprise for them!

CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 23 - JANUARY 20)
Whenever you feel that all of your hard efforts are not getting enough recognition, think of today, Capricorn. You may see that there are those who notice what you are doing and like what they see. Whether that means travel or taking a new class or even just exploring a new neighborhood, you are ripe for adventure and something thought provoking. So venture forth get provoked.

PISCES (FEBRUARY 20 - MARCH 20)
While others may be content to float along and catch an occasional wave, Pisces are ready to roil the ocean. Your passions run high and deep now. What will you focus on to make those feeling matter? Re-charge an old love. Or kindle a new one. Embrace the things that really matter and make them part of your future plans. The ground shakes. So dance.
