We as a nation tend to be rather superstitious. In a 2014 YouGov survey of 1000 adults, more than a third said that they believe in good luck pennies, 30% think knocking on wood might bring them luck and 27% believe in the power of crossing their fingers.
But belief in Superstitions
declines with age and the AARP magazine reports that the survey shows almost 75% of those over 65 years old were not superstitious at all - more than any other age group. We tend to be more superstitious when we are younger partly because of pressure from family and peers.
