Are You Biologically Conservative ... Or Liberal?

This previous post is still very timely --

There is a study from the University of Nebraska that says that there is an organic, physiological difference between those who are politically liberal and those who are conservative. Omg

The results of their study suggest that people who startle easily to loud noises or threatening images have a biological predisposition to adopt conservative political positions on issues like gun control, gay marriage, abortion and immigration. Greater sensitivity to stimuli leads to a more defensive stance on political issues.

This study comes from the University of Nebraska and was based on what researchers saw at the Democratic and Republican conventions. The Republicans were waving banners and were much more viseral than the Democrats. "I was quite struck by watching the conventions by the different tones" said John Hibbing, a political scientist at U of N at Lincoln. The researchers hedge their bets by saying that physiology is not the only factor in forming political views - and it is far from the most important factor.

Maybe we should be more open to those with very different political views. Maybe these politically different folks are not really stupid or irrational. Maybe they are just more predisposed to worry about risk. Maybe? Maybe....? Nah!
Author George Lakoff analyzes the unconscious and rhetorical worldviews of liberals and conservatives, discovering radically different but remarkably consistent conceptions of morality on both the left and right -- read it here: Moral Politics: How Liberals and Conservatives Think.

Aries may want to muscle in on all of the attention this week but before you push to the front of the line, take a meditative breath and see if the urgency is really there. It may cost you more to act than to wait it out. Chill down, meditate on the issue and see if you can handle things more in the background. Keep your eyes open for clues....

There is so much happening around you that can change the course of your actions that you may be tempted to ask the advice of your trusted friends. But they might not be properly focused on your end game, Taurus. My advice this week is to listen to your own counsel and good common sense.. and expect the unexpected.

Dream a dream about your career now, Gemini, but keep your practicality in the front of any big decisions. There might be some unexpected surprises that will change your course and while you have many friend who want to help, their actions will not get you where you want to go. Take it one careful baby step at a time before you get to ballet..

Your expansive mind takes you to many unusual and fascinating places now, Cancer. Let the global exploration, from a safe distance, begin. But don’t get caught up in a web of intrigue or get sidetracked by cyber promises. Concentrate on your long term goals and how to best benefit from a certain social group. There is a lot on your plate. Cut into small bites.

Leos get swept off their feet with a new love or supercharge an existing one. Your lust knows no bounds... and you may not have any limits. Moderation is advisable so you make the best choices. Little surprises in your career can create extra stress that impacts your love life. So find greater balance in your life. Try not to go head over heels.

Virgos can get totally wrapped up in the actions and affairs of others. Not only can you be drawn into some intense conversations, you may be asked to provide advice or take action. But in some cases, no action is better than any action. We can get very dreamy, hopeful and trusting about certain people but let reality dictate your response.

Life may feel a bit more complicated as chores pile up and partners demand more attention. How can you best handle all of these competing interests, Libra? Maybe taking a short break where you can relax and decompress will help. Try to untangle yourself from the day-to-day and put all of those ups and downs into a holding pattern. Mentally cruise for now.

A spark of creativity may take you to a brand new exciting idea but the most efficient way to spend your time now, Scorpio, is to get down to business. Focus on what needs to be done and carefully prioritize what you absolutely need to do in the short term. You don’t want life to get too complicated or burdensome. And be mellow - don’t over-react

Family issues may get caught up in nostalgia and maybe a few regrets but don’t let the “what ifs” of life get you down, Sagittarius. Life can be complicated and the fact is that you have always been your best self. Take some self care now. Relax and find ways to improve your diet and overall health. Try to avoid those who increase your stress ... for now.

Anything you say can take on a crazy life of its own now, Capricorn. So weigh your words carefully and think before you speak. Even then, it may be unpredictable. Anything fun or frivolous can bring it’s own unexpected results. Let’s just say that life will not only be interesting, it will also be very surprising. It will be hard to predict the results.

Some of your actions will not only lead to expensive outcomes, it may cause some surprises in family affairs. Even though money can help, it is not a cure all for some of your challenges, Aquarius. And sometimes it even complicates things. So stay focused and maybe a bit thrifty now. A penny saved is a penny earned. But do it in dollars.

You give off a dreamy, other worldly vibe now, Pisces. But don’t let your compliant appearance lead others to believe that they can take advantage of your good nature. Fool them! Be steely inside and be strong in your beliefs and values. Some of the things you say now can upend the landscape. Be sure that is what you really want to do.

Lucky Numbers for the Week of October 16, 2020

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes. So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....?

I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of of wealth.

Here are the lucky numbers for the week of October 16-22, 2020:

6, 18, 19, 21, 30, 35, 54, 64

There are many ways to delve into your own consciousness to find luck and intuition. Try reading Dream Power/Improve Your Luck (Super Strength Series) and see if your dreams give you any clues and premonitions. Here's a guide to the best books available this month

Mercury retrograde2Eminent astrologer Felissa Rose gives us her analysis of the third and final time Mercury is retrograde in 2020. Oh those retrograde Mercurys!

2020, for many has been a stressful and difficult year, just all in all quite bizarre.   One of the consistencies is the planet Mercury which goes retrograde three times this and every other year.   The next and final time begins on Tuesday, October 13 at 9:06 pm EDT at 11 degrees and 40 minutes of Scorpio.   It will go direct on an interesting and important day, election day in the United States, Tuesday, November 3rd at 12:51 pm EST at 25 degrees and 57 minutes of Libra.   Although it turns direct on that date its impact can be felt until November 19th when Mercury comes to the exact degree where it had gone retrograde on October 13th.

Mercury is the ruler of information and Scorpio is the sign that rules what’s often hidden and under the surface defining one’s deep and inherent beliefs.   It can emphasize the dissension that presently exists in our country,   bringing up words and actions adding to the  discord that seems at a high level even now.   Hopefully, it begins to clear up or even lessen after the election which might appear difficult to happen before then.

Regarding the usual Mercury retrograde problems, information and communications get delayed, no surprise here with what’s going on with the post office.   Mars is also retrograde and mechanical parts and equipment is more likely to be problematic or fail.   Not that will happen with all of them, but the odds are better that things need to be repaired or replaced than at other times.   Be careful signing any contracts, the small print in them can create problems if not carefully read and understood.

If possible, it’s best to avoid medical procedures or even diagnosis.  Things aren’t as clear during these times and unless the procedure is  essential  if possible, it’s best to wait.   It doesn’t necessarily indicate that there will be a problem but  more likely than at other times.

It’s always important to speak your truth.   Life is complicated enough and if one is dishonest with themselves as well as others, things tend to get more befuddled and either one must continue to support the lie or make up more to do so.   When a planet is retrograde personally it tends to internalize the energy.    Those born with this planetary position tend to think before they speak, and many successful writers were born while Mercury was retrograde.  It’s a time to go over thoughts, ideas and events, to make sense of things as well as understand whatever has happened.  Reflecting and going over things is often a positive thing to do but even more so while Mercury is retrograde.  For “what we think we become,” Buddha.

In 2021 Mercury will be retrograde from January 30th to February 20th, May 29th to June 22nd and September 27th to October 18th.
