Encounters with Animals: Symbolic Process in the Astrological Consultation
Sunday 31st Jan 2021 - 15.30-18.00 GMT

As astrologers, we recognize that seemingly unitary people are at the same time multiple: each of us brings a circle of animals – the literal meaning of ‘zodiac’ – everywhere we go. This includes the astrological consultation itself: it’s always a crowded room when astrologer and client meet. Not to mention what the animals in the sky are up to that day!

Psychological discourse of the 20th century and the psychological astrology that grew in dialogue with it often became caught up in a very Day-organized practitioner stance of objectivity, neutrality, and distance – yet these concepts actively reject the premise of astrological imagination: that we are saturated at all times, through and through, with creatures of psyche and cosmos – and there is no space where they are not at play, including the consciousness of the astrologer and the consultation space. Rather than put aside the subjective, how can we accept its invitation into a deeper relationship with symbols, with clients, and with the sky itself?

In this webinar we will actively contemplate the space of the astrological consultation as a place for symbolic exploration. A place where the various creatures in both astrologer and client appear. And we will look at how to actively engage that field in readings which follow and engage that space rather than merely describe it or speak about it. We will consider the place of subjective process and association in astrological encounters: of memories, images, dream figures, body sensations, action urges carried by both people. We will also consider at length the relational configurations that activate between astrologer and client and how these reflect the voice, or call, or footprint of the many creatures within – and how we can welcome these creatures into the consultation. These experiences, which often have the appearance of accidents or ‘getting in the way’ of the reading, may in fact be the moments when the symbol speaks directly, rather than we speak about it.

Drawing deeply from multiple client and chart encounters and from the well of Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Greco-Roman myths; inspirations from the world of theatre; and from naturalists and others who work in the animal world, we will explore some frameworks, metaphors, and ways of creating safe and rich habitat in the consultation to engage the many creatures within us. How are we already inside the chart? Who speaks, and how? And how can seeing this be meaningful and ultimately ensouling for both astrologer and client? These will be our questions.

2021: The Good of The Community vs. My Personal Good
Sunday 7th Feb 2021 - 15.30-18.00 GMT

Saturn in Aquarius describes a strong moral sense of what is ‘right’ and ‘good’ for our community, whether others agree with us or not. Uranus in Taurus describes where we must awaken to our own values and our own ‘good’, whether others agree with us or not. These two planets are square each other throughout 2021 and all of us will have to confront  these conflicting demands in ourselves and in others.

Malefic and Benefics, “Good and Bad” in Psychological Astrology

Sunday 21st Feb 2021 - 15.30-18.00 GMT

The astrological tradition gives us strong indications of good and bad placements in astrology. In the 20th century many  of these distinctions were smoothed over, particularly in psychological astrology. And yet we can clearly see that certain planet/sign combinations carry inherent difficulty. Bound up in these terms are notions of fate and free will. Are there ‘good’ and ‘bad’ planets? Dane Rudhyar said that an individual may need “to experience tensions, conflicts, crises, dissatisfaction, restlessness — yet not be destroyed by these, but use them as sharp and strong tools to build an undaunted and indomitable personality”. Planets in detriment often take people in a direction counter to expectation, and may require a depth of experience that an ‘easy’ placement does not have. We will look at traditional malefics, as well as planets in detriment and fall, and how these placements can be understood as invitations for a life against expectation, for inner or outer work, that leads to a fuller expression of who we are meant to be.

Siblings – whether we love them or hate them – they matter!
Sunday 28th Feb 2021 - 15.30-18.00 GMT

The relationships formed with siblings can indicate how we relate to members of our own peer group. Much attention has been given to parent-child contacts, but sibling dynamics are equally important. Studying these factors can be valuable in improving both relationships with siblings and with our peers and intimate partners. Although it is often said that ‘we marry our mother/father’, it may perhaps be more accurate in some cases to say that ‘we marry our brother/sister’. Apart from looking at Mercury and his aspects, we will study the 3rd house and the phase of life it represents. Faye will use Inner Child techniques to highlight patterns, so bring your horoscopes with Koch houses so we can discuss your own examples.

Harmonics: The Sound of Astrology
Sunday 7th Mar 2021 - 15.30-18.00 GMT

In this webinar we will focus on the ancient theory of harmonics, the universal relationship between mathematical ratios and musical resonance, of which astrology as a whole, and the astrological aspects in particular, are an expression.

The birth chart is an expression of our fundamental resonance, our core note, or first harmonic. It reflects the universal frequencies of the cosmos at the time of our birth. We are already familiar with the number symbolism associated with the major divisions of the circle by two (opposition), three (trine) and four (square), but harmonic theory enables us to look deeper into the birth chart. We will explore the mathematical and musical symbolism of the fifth, seventh and ninth harmonics, and the meaning of the quintile, septile and novile aspects.

We will also explore the second harmonic as the chart of our ‘unknown self’, the musical octave of our natal chart, and of great significance in relationships. Working with the second harmonic, we can develop enhanced self knowledge, and learn to dance between our own inner opposites.

The Fifth House - Love and Other Many-Splendored Things
Sunday 14th Mar 2021 - 15.30-18.00 GMT

As the house in which Venus finds her joy, many of the significations of the Fifth House stay true to the goddess’ character: pleasure, fun, fertility, love. Yet, within the Fifth House also reside complex mysteries, suggested by the presence of another goddess: Fortuna. In Hellenistic astrology, the Fifth House was known as Bona Fortuna, or Good Fortune, bringing us the beneficent side of the capricious Fortuna. Additionally, the location of the Fifth House in the night sect of the chart offers the psyche a vast playground for the creative impulses of the imagination. Planets located within this house reflect styles of play, creativity, fortune, and love. This webinar will explore each of these aspects of the Fifth House via myth, culture, the arts, and numerous chart examples.
