Lynn Bell Seeing Eye to Eye: the Astrology of Brothers and Sisters Sunday 28th Jan 2024 - 15.30-18.00 GMT

Our siblings can be companions or rivals, mirrors for the best and worst of ourselves. How wonderful to have a sibling as a guide, how terrible to encounter a bully. These first relationships  carry an important imprint for later life, they affect our capacity for distance and closeness, our ability to communicate, to connect and let go. There are often powerful stories to unwind as we get older. The idealized sibling, the troubled brother or sister, or the one struck by some kind of fate, all play a huge role in our future selves. The third house is traditionally associated with siblings, and its “shadow houses”  the second and eighth, speak to the issues of envy and possession, always so prominent in these relationships. Examples from class participants will be welcome.

Shawn Nygaard Opening Jung’s “The Red Book” – Suggestions for Getting Started Sunday 4th Feb 2024 - 15.30-16.45 GMT

Carl Jung’s “The Red Book,” first published in 2009 though originally written starting in the autumn of 1913, is a raw, intimate, and mysterious book sitting at the foundation of Jungian psychology. Open “The Red Book” and what springs forth is an altogether different experience than that of reading the Collected Works, barely recognizable as the Jung we know through terms like introversion, extroversion, and psychological types. “The Red Book” resembles something more like a work of archetypal psychology emerging from James Hillman, Rafael López-Pedraza, or Patricia Berry.   If you are interested in “The Red Book” but are not sure where to begin, this webinar offers numerous suggestions on how to approach the massive work. This includes an overview of its contents, how it differs markedly from the Collected Works, and the backdrop of what led Jung to create it in the first place, relying on active imagination and his knowledge of astrology more than anything. While challenging, a deep dive with Jung into “The Red Book” provides an enormous amount of insight into the whole of Jungian psychology. This webinar is a springboard to get you started and is useful even if you are already familiar with the book. One hour talk followed by short Q&A session. This session is included in the course fees of Year 1 and 2 Diploma students.

Martin Moritz The Descendant and Partner Choices Sunday 11th Feb 2024 - 15.30-18.00 GMT

As a couples therapist my bread and butter is to work out how this often complex cliché ridden pattern of ‘opposites attract‘ affect our relationships. Astrology has helped me many times to get a clearer picture of these patterns and how they play out. In this webinar we will shed light on this fascinating topic by sharing certain rules which makes it easier to define ‘what kind of partner‘ a native will attract. We will be looking at: the sign on the descendant and its polarity with the ascendant; the house in which the ruler of the descendant is placed; the aspects of the descendant ruler; and planets in the 7th house. All of these have a profound effect on our partner choices and how harmonious or challenging our relationship patterns may play out. As well as the theory, I will present many charts in order to demonstrate how my guide works.

Carole Taylor Interpreting the Whole Chart Sunday 18th Feb 2024 - 15.30-18.00 GMT

The challenge in reading a chart is to bring the component parts together so that a sense of the whole person begins to form. Each chart contains its unique arrangement of planetary configurations, placements and house rulerships, the whole a map of the individual rendered in symbolic form. As we analyse and then synthesise the material, ideas emerge about what moves and motivates this particular individual, as we work to gain a sense of the flesh-and-blood person behind the archetypal pattern. This seminar will offer practice in reading whole charts, first gathering the information and then weaving it together to arrive at a sense of the chart’s main themes.

A History of Ghosts in the Western World

Starting today at 7pm New York Time! This three part online series explores how people have thought about ghosts through time in the Western world.

Course Description

In this course, we'll trace the history of ghostly encounters reported across the Western world, both friendly and nefarious. We'll begin with ghosts from the classical world who haunted heroes like Gilgamesh and Odysseus, and look at the Biblical story of Saul and the Witch of Endor. We'll meet medieval necromancers, Victorian spiritualists, and finally, the modern ghost-hunter. By the end of our time together, you'll not only have a deep understanding of how cultures have conceived of the most common supernatural entity throughout history, but also ideas and suggestions for engaging in your own supernatural investigations. 

Syllabus at a Glance

This course includes three total sessions, each lasting for 1 hour on three Mondays beginning January 22.

Session 1 (Monday, 1/22, 7–8:00 PM ET) | From Gilgamesh to the Victorians

We'll explore the earliest history of ghosts, including Egyptian, Babylonian, Greek, and Biblical stories; cover medieval necromancers; and learn how the Victorians fell in love with the seance. 

Session 2 (Monday, 1/29, 7–8:00 PM ET) | Who You Gonna Call (in the 20th century)? 

We'll cover early scientific investigation of ghosts, including spirit photography and audio recording; the first great ghost-hunters; and ghosts in 20th-century literature and film.

Session 3 (Monday, 2/5, 7–8:00 PM ET) | Today's Ghosts

In our final session, we'll take an in-depth look at modern theories regarding spirits and ghost-hunting, including a close examination of equipment and the use of mediums and psychics.

Between Sessions

Students will be given recommended readings and materials that touch on the topics covered in class.
