Dog Parade for Halloween in Tompkins Square Park, NYC

I love a parade. My love traces back to my toddler days when I (my mother) wove crepe paper streamers through the spokes of my tricycle. I don't have a clear recollection of this but I have the old black and white photos as proof -- and there I was proudly seated on my trike with a big smile on my face. This love continued through school where I joined the marching band, sometimes playing the flute and sometimes shaking my booty pom poms. Ah, the memories. But getting back to the present.

Picture 2 If you are going to dress up your dog for Halloween, you might as well parade him around for all to see. The 18th annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade is the canine equivalent of the free wheeling, fantastic Village Halloween Parade -- lots of prancing feet. More than 300 owners and pooches participate and the rewards, other than bragging rights, include opportunities for goodie bags and iPods.

Pet Halloween parades offer lots of chances for Howl-o-Ween good times and great photo opportunities. Many of these parades and Halloween parties also benefit a worthy animal cause -- so check out your local listings. If you have a favorite parade memory and/or photo, please pass it along.
