Leo the Hero: Jack Russell Terrier Saves Kittens from Fire

Leo earned a new nickname, "Smoky," after standing guard over a cardboard box of kittens while everyone else -- 4 people and 1 other dog -- fled their burning house in Melbourne, Australia. And it's hard to blame everyone for fleeing as the burning house quickly filled with thick, acrid smoke. Leo certainly put his life in danger by refusing to leave but he was able to help direct the firemen's attention to the box of kitties.

Leo lost consciousness and stopped breathing and the kittens also suffered from smoke inhalation. Thankfully the firemen were able to revive them all. This YouTube video is a news clip showing a bit of the rescue and ends with Leo licking the kittens -- if the kittens were a bit older and more aware, I think they would be the ones licking Leo. Let's hear a cheer for our hero, Leo!

Good Job Leo! You should be applauded and recognized for your good deed. You deserve a great treat. It's a common knowledge that puppies and kittens are best enemies, but you proved them all wrong.
