Fun with Animal Towel Origami

I was recently on my first cruise, just a brief three-day cruise with Norwegian Cruise Lines that proved long enough for me to get very seasick but not long enough to really get "my sea legs." One night when we returned to our cabin we were delighted to find a cute elephant made from a few rolled towels and wearing sunglasses. The next night we found a towel frog. These towel animals were really adorable and I was annoyed later that I didn't think to take any photographs of them.

After doing a bit of online searching I was surprized to discover that it is not unusual for cruise lines to do this. There are books on the subject as well: The Lost Art of Towel Origami and How to Make a Towel Monkey and other Cruise Ship Favorites. Here is a good YouTube video of a cruise line attendant demonstrating how to create an elephant from two towels. I'm glad someone thought to get this on video. Maybe I'll surprise our next house guests with a towel animal on their bed.
