Case for Microchipping Your Pet: Dog Found After 9 Year Absence
Thanks to the efforts of the RSPCA in Australia, Muffy the dog was rescued from a negligent family and then, because she had been microchipped, she was reunited with her long-lost family. Muffy had become skinny and scruffy, suffering from a flea allergy, and living in a squalid backyard of a home 2000 km (about 1240 mi) away.
The RSPCA is a community based charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection. The dog's family "screamed with joy when the RSPCA called to say Muffy was alive." That would have been a great reunion to see -- wish they had made a video. What a lucky dog Muffy is and may her remaining years be happy and safe.

Important note: The Humane Society has a very informative article that answers common questions about microchips.
