Pumpkin Carving: Dog-o-Lanterns

Dog o lantern You always see lots of jack-o-lanterns for Halloween but how about taking the opportunity to show off your favorite dog breed by carving a dog-o-lantern? The Better Homes and Gardens site has lots of information on dog-breed pumpkin carving, everything from choosing the perfect pumpkin to downloading free stencils. In the photo here you see Mouse, a sweet miniature dachshund owned by Karin Edwards posing with her pumpkin (stencil design by Diane Starkey).

If you'd like to try sculpting a pumpkin without using a stencil, here's a how-to article for sculpting your a dog-o-lantern from your own photo. The author, Terri Hardin insists that you need not be an artist, just give it your best shot.

If you have a favorite animal carving, send in a photo and share.
