The Meow Parlor - the First Cat Cafe in NYC
A good idea has finally come to NYC - the first Cat Cafe Parlor.
Here is the story from USA Today;
At the new Meow Parlour in the Lower East Side, Marty, Squinkles and Spot make the purrfect companions. They are among the first eight cats to greet guests at New York City's first cat café. Customers will be able to play with the cats while reading a book, tapping away on their laptops or just hanging out. And once the Meow Parlour Patisserie opens around the corner, they'll be able to nosh on baked goods and beverages while interacting with their feline friends.
The café will have a rotating roster of a dozen cats vetted by the rescue group KittyKind. The hope is that they will be adopted by the café's patrons, after submission of an application, an interview and home visit conducted by KittyKind.
All cats are vaccinated and spayed/neutered. To protect the cats, customers are asked to take off their shoes at the door and to refrain from feeding them. The parlour has a secluded area the cats can escape to if they, like the humans, need to relax.
WiFi is free at the parlour. But a spot at the café, which can hold up to 30 people, is not. Guests have to pay $4 per half hour, or $30 for the maximum five-hour period. They can either walk in or make an appointment online.
Pictures and descriptions of each cat adorn one wall of the café. One sign describes nine "purrsonality" types. They include bookish, brainiac, chatty, and jock.
Marty, a black-and-white male born August 2013, has a purrsonality type described as pep squad, which is "the perfect mix of energetic and mellow." He likes yoga mats, toys, mousies, and singing. He dislikes losing at go fish. Fun fact: "Marty has a heart on his chest!"
Lucky Lemon is an orange tabby male born November 2013. He's a BFF, or Best Furry Friend. He likes other cats and quiet times. He dislikes thunder and hyperbole.
Julian, a tabby-and-white male born April 2014, likes snuggling and Downton Abbey and dislikes being late for tea.
Meow Parlour, located at 46 Hester Street, is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday to Sunday.
