Colin Batty Handpainted Vintage Cards
Rachel Oakley in New Art reports on the creepy hand painted vintage cards of artist Colin Batty.
From a distance these vintage cabinet card photos look like something you’d fish out of an ordinary estate sale. But look a little closer and you’ll get the shock of your life! Renowned artist Colin Batty has taken up his brush to modify old cards into creepy and cool (and hilarious) images that both scare and excite.
But that’s not the craziest part. The craziest part is that Batty does this work all by hand-you won’t find a single image photoshopped in his 100+ collection of cards in the book Meet the Family.
Colin Batty is an artist from Manchester, England. He’s worked on everything from Tim Burton’s Mars Attacks, to the Oscar-nominated short The Sandman. Original pieces of his work can be found at The Peculiarium (if you haven’t visited, do it!).
