Highlights: 99° on Sept. 11, 1983; flooding rains (five inches) from tropical storm Floyd fell on Sept. 16, 1999; a tornadic storm struck parts of Brooklyn and Queens on Sept. 16, 2010; Hurricane Gloria struck Long Island on Sept. 27, 1985; the effects from tropical storm Jean moved through on Sept. 28, 2004; the first 23 days of September 2005 all had highs of 80° or warmer; September 2015 was the warmest on record; the Great Atlantic Hurricane in 1944 dumped 9.30" of rain over a three-day period.); NYC's longest heat wave on record, 12 days, came to an end on Sept. 4 1953.
