Today in New York Weather History: October 25
1980 (Saturday)
1.76" of rain fell today, with 1.15" of it falling between 10 AM-1 PM.
1991 (Friday)
Today's high temperature and those of the past two days: 72°-71°-70° (today) - well above the average high of 61°.
2005 (Tuesday)
In less than three weeks (Oct. 8-25) nearly 17 inches of rain fell, making this the wettest October on record (and, at the time, the second rainiest month overall; it's since dropped to third). During these two-and-a-half weeks of deluges, seven days received an inch or more of rain. In stark contrast, September had just 0.48" of rain, making it the driest September since 1963.
2007 (Thursday)
Today's high was 57°, the first day this autumn with a high temperature below 60° - the latest date for this occurrence in the 1970-2023 period (average date is Oct. 7). This balanced the 8/21 high of 59°, which was just the second time a high cooler than 60° occurred in the month of August.
2008 (Saturday)
Mostly light rain fell between 4-9 PM, but then 0.62" poured down in the hour between 9-10 PM.
2011 (Tuesday)
This was the third day in a row with a morning low of 50°. Although the high temperatures on these days weren't identical, they were somewhat similar: 59°, 61°, and 62°.
2022 (Tuesday)
It was mild and very humid with humidity in the 87% to 97% range all day. (Typical daily range in October is 57% to 77%). While the high of 70° was the mildest reading in nearly two weeks, the day’s low of 61° was the first low in the 60s in five weeks (61° is the average high on 10/25). Overall, the day was 11 degrees above average. With the dew point so close to the air temperature ( just a few degrees apart), thick fog was produced, reducing visibility to one mile or less from 2 AM until noon.
2021 - today’s high of 73° was the last 70° day of the year. this was the earliest date for this occurrence since 2012, when the last 70° day was on October fifteenth. just like today, Oct. 15 of 2012 was also a Monday. this broke a string of six years (from 2015 to 2020 inclusive) which had their last 70° day on or after November first. on average, the last 70° day of the year usually happens within the first week of November.
