New York Weather History: May Highlights

FlatironBuilding_SpringtimeHighlights:  Compared to other months, May's weather is relatively tranquil.  It hasn't had a lot of noteworthy weather events, such as tropical storms, cold waves, blizzards or extended heat waves.  Brief hot spells, like those in early May 2000 and 2001 and in late May 1986 and 1987, have been the most notable weather highlights.  May 2015, the second warmest on record, set a record for having 18 days with highs of 80° or warmer.  Finally, ten of the eleven Memorial Days thru 2016 had highs in the 80s.

How come the trace of snow on May 9th in 1977 doesn't get an honorable mention. That's a once in a lifetime event.

I did make note of it in my post of weather highlights on May 9 and in the annual recap of weather highlights of 1977.

according to this link (https://www.weather.gov/media/okx/Climate/Almanacs/nyc/nycmay.pdf) it's listed that May 29, 1995 is the latest date that NYC has ever seen snowflakes.

That was actually hail that fell during a severe thunderstorm that night.

Hi William, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'll ask the blog's administrator to look into it. Which blog was it taking you to (was it the daily horoscope?). If you encounter this problem in the future you can always access the blog directly at https://www.nycweatherarchive.com .
