Today in New York Weather History: October 25

1980 (Saturday)

1.76" of rain fell today, with 1.15" of it falling between 10 AM-1 PM.

1991 (Friday)

Today's high temperature and those of the past two days: 72°-71°-70° (today) - well above the average high of 61°.

2005 (Tuesday)

In less than three weeks (Oct. 8-25) nearly 17 inches of rain fell, making this the wettest October on record (and, at the time, the second rainiest month overall; it's since dropped to third).  During these two-and-a-half weeks of deluges, seven days received an inch or more of rain.  In stark contrast, September had just 0.48" of rain, making it the driest September since 1963.

2007 (Thursday)

Today's high was 57°, the first day this autumn with a high temperature below 60° - the latest date for this occurrence in the 1970-2023 period (average date is Oct. 7).  This balanced the 8/21 high of 59°, which was just the second time a high cooler than 60° occurred in the month of August.

2008 (Saturday)

Mostly light rain fell between 4-9 PM, but then 0.62" poured down in the hour between 9-10 PM.

2011 (Tuesday)

This was the third day in a row with a morning low of 50°.  Although the high temperatures on these days weren't identical, they were somewhat similar: 59°, 61°, and 62°.

2022 (Tuesday)

It was mild and very humid with humidity in the 87% to 97% range all day.  (Typical daily range in October is 57% to 77%).  While the high of 70° was the mildest reading in  nearly two weeks, the day’s low of 61° was the first low in the 60s in five weeks (61° is the average high on 10/25).  Overall, the day was 11 degrees above average.  With the dew point so close to the air temperature ( just a few degrees apart), thick fog was produced, reducing visibility to one mile or less from 2 AM until noon.

New York City Marathon Weather Highlights (1970 - 2023)

Nyc_marathon

The New York City Marathon is one of the highlights of autumn in New York.  On Marathon Sunday the day's high/low has averaged 62°/47°, with the temperature at the start of the race typically in the low 50s.  Temperatures have warmed into the upper 60s or higher during fifteen of the races, and they've been in the cold low 40s or colder at start time in half a dozen years.  (Many runners consider temperatures in the 45°-55° range optimal.)  Rain has rarely been a factor as it's fallen during the race only five times - the last time was in 2017 (but it was a light mist that amounted to just 0.01")

The average temperature on race day masks a difference between earlier and more recent races.  During the race's first 25 years the average high/low was 65°/51°, but since 1995 temperatures have been considerably cooler, averaging 56°/43°.  This is largely due to the fact that early races were held in September and October; now they're run in the first week of November.  What follows are weather highlights of past races:

Chart - marathon temp trend

  • 1970 (Sept. 13) - The first New York City Marathon took place under sunny skies and warm temperatures.  Although the morning low was a refreshing 58°, when the race got underway the temperature had risen into the low 70s.  During the afternoon it warmed to 80°, which was a few degrees above average.
  • 1974 (Sept. 29) - This was the first Marathon to see rain as thundershowers produced 0.32" of rain between 2-3:00 PM and 0.10" between 4-5:00 PM.  It was also a warm day, with a start-time temperature of 74°.
  • 1975 (Sept. 28) - Runners breathed a sigh of relief as the City dried out from a string of rainy days that produced 8.50" of rain over eight consecutive days, ending Friday.  This included an unprecedented four days in row in which more than an inch of rain fell.  Today, however, was sunny with near seasonable temperatures (high/low of 69°/57°).
  • 1976 (Oct. 24) - A raw, gray and damp day.  When the race started the temperature was in the upper 40s and light showers moved in after 2:00 PM.  This was the first race to go through each of NYC's five boroughs - and the first time the race was held in late October.

  Nyc_marathon1976

  • 1977 (Oct. 23) - A cold front moved through during the early afternoon, dropping the temperature from 56° at 1 PM to 44° at 4 PM.
  • 1979 (Oct. 21) - This was the marathon run in the warmest conditions, with temperatures in the 70s throughout and topping off at 80°, twenty-three degrees above average.  (At least it was cooler than the next day when the afternoon high soared to 88°.)
  • 1980 (Oct. 26) - Quite a contrast from last year's race.  Although it wasn't rainy like yesterday morning, when 1.76" fell, runners had to contend with temperatures in the 40s and winds that gusted between 25-40 mph.
  • 1983 (Oct. 23) - Rain moved in shortly before noon and 0.69" had fallen by 6:00 PM (and continued through the night).

INGnycmarathon_logo

  • 1984 (Oct. 28) - With a high/low of 79°/62°, today was the warmest day of October and one of the warmest Marathon Sundays on record.  Besides the warm temperatures, it was also on the humid side.
  • 1990 (Nov. 4) - Following a Saturday that had an unseasonably warm high of 78°, today was also very mild, with a high/low of 73°/58° - fifteen degrees above average.  Skies were a mix of sun and clouds.
  • 1992 (Nov. 1) - With a high/low of 51°/40°, seven degrees below average, today was the chilliest Marathon Sunday in ten years.  It was also breezy, with winds coming off the ocean.
  • 1993 (Nov. 14) - Although this was the latest date of any Marathon, the day was very mild, with a high/low of 72°/54° - 15 degrees warmer than average.  (The following day the high soared to 80°.)
  • 1994 (Nov. 6) - Although just 0.01" of rain fell, it came just as the winner of the mens' race, German Silva of Mexico, was running his last mile.
  • 1995 (Nov. 12) - This was the race with the coldest conditions as the temperature at race time was 40°, and only went up a few degrees as the race went on.  Winds gusting between 30-45 mph produced wind chills in the upper 20s.
  • 1997 (Nov. 2) - A hard rain fell between 1:30-2:30 PM, amounting to 0.52".  This was the last time rain fell during the race until 2017 (when only 0.01" was measured).
  • 2003 (Nov. 2) - Today's high of 68° made this the race with the mildest temperature since the 1994 Marathon.  But although today's high was ten degrees above average, it was considerably cooler than yesterday's and tomorrow's respective highs of 77° and 79°.

Nycmarathon_verazzano

  • 2005 (Nov. 6) - This was the third year in a row in which temperatures rose into the upper 60s (ten degrees above average).  Temperatures wouldn't rise into the 60s on race day for another ten years.
  • 2010 (Nov. 7) - The morning low was 36°, six degrees colder than average.  Only three race days have started out chillier.
  • 2011 (Nov. 6) - One week after a record-breaking early season snowstorm (2.9" fell), conditions were perfect for the race, with bright blue skies and temperatures in the optimal 45°-55° range.

 Nyc_marathon_runner

  • 2012 (Nov. 4) - Controversy arose over this year's race as a result of it falling a week after Hurricane Sandy struck the region.  It was finally cancelled two days before race day.  If it had been held, runners would have experienced weather similar to the previous two years with temperatures in the mid-to-upper 40s.
  • 2013 (Nov. 3) - Sunny and brisk with temperatures steady in the upper 40s throughout the race (10 AM thru 4 PM).
  • 2014 (Nov. 2) - Runners were buffeted by high winds, with gusts of 30-45 mph, depending on the neighborhood they were running through.  These winds resulted in the slowest times for the winners since the 1984 event (when conditions were warm and humid).  Besides the high winds, it was also chilly, with a starting time temperature at 43° and wind chills in the mid to upper 30s.
  • 2015 (Nov. 1) - Weather conditions were great for runners as skies were lightly overcast and temperatures ranged from upper 50s at the start of the race to mid-60s by 4:00.  The last time temperatures were this pleasant for the event was ten years ago.
  • 2016 (Nov. 6) - Near-perfect conditions greeted runners, with sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s for the bulk of the race (thru late afternoon).  Breezy conditions (20-25 mph gusts) was the only fly in the ointment.

2016 marathon

  • 2017 (Nov. 5) - The race was run in gray, foggy conditions with light drizzle moving in shortly before noon (just as the top women and men runners were finishing their races).  Temperatures held steady in the upper 50s throughout the race, with afternoon humidity above 90%.  And although it was only 0.01", this was the first measurable rain to fall in 20 years during the race (between 10 AM-4 PM).
  • 2018 (Nov. 4) - Skies were mostly clear and temperatures a few degrees chillier than average.  The day's high/low of 55°/43° is what the average temperature has been for the races of the 2010s.  The afternoon humidity was around 40%, which was more than 50% lower than that of last year's race.  The following year's conditions on race day (11/2) were very similar but a few degrees chillier (high/low of 53°/40°).
  • 2020 (Nov. 1) - For the second time in the past nine years the race was cancelled.  This time it was because of the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping the nation.  If the race had been run, the elite runners would have been happy because most would have completed the course before rain moved in early in the afternoon (0.40" fell).  Temperatures were good for running as they were in the low-to-mid 50s.
  • 2021 (Nov. 7) - Conditions were close to optimal for runners as temperatures were in the mid-40s to low-50s range, wind was minimal, mid-day humidity was on the low side, and skies were fair (transitioning from clear in the morning to hazy during the afternoon).  The temperature at the start of the race was in the mid-40s, and rose slowly into the low 50s during the afternoon.

50th nyc marathon

  • 2022 (Nov. 6) - The race was moved to November in 1986 so that it was less likely runners would need to contend with warm conditions, but this year's race was an outlier as it was the warmest of the races held in November, with a high/low of 75°/66°.  And perhaps posing even more of a challenge for runners was the humidity, with the dew point in the low 60s.  Today's high was a record for the date.

Today in New York Weather History: October 24

1875 (Sunday)

This was the third day in a row with a high of 71°, and it came a month after another three-day streak of 71° highs (Sept. 27-29).

1976 (Sunday)

It was a raw, gray and damp day for the seventh New York City Marathon.  At race time the temperature was in the upper 40s; light showers moved in after 2 PM.  This was the first race to go through each of NYC's five boroughs - and the first time the race was held in late October.

1978 (Tuesday)

The warmest and coldest temperatures of the month were experienced in less than 24 hours of each other.  After a high of 76°  yesterday (14 degrees above average), a strong cold front moved through during the evening and knocked the temperature down 40 degrees, to 36° by 8 AM today (12 degrees below average).

2017 (Tuesday)

Today's forecast warned of an intense rainstorm expected to produce rainfall amounts comparable to what fell since Sept. 1 (2.70"), but just 0.20" was measured.  Despite showers and fog the temperature rose to 73°, making this the 19th day this month with a high in the 70s or warmer - the second most such days on record for the month of October (Oct. 1947 had 23).  Meanwhile, the day's low of 67° was a record for the date, five degrees warmer than the date's average high, and the month's eleventh low in the 60s - only October 1879 and 2007  reported more - 13 and 12, respectively (Oct. 2017 would tie 2007 on 10/29; and Oct. 2021 would tie 1879's number).

1878 (Wednesday)

The center of the dissipating "Gale of 1878" moved west of Manhattan.  Shortly after daybreak winds gusted over 50 mph and 0.73" of rain was measured in Central Park.

1893 (Monday)

A shield of heavy rain from a tropical storm that passed over the Delmarva Peninsula soaked the City with 2.46" of rain.

1923 (Tuesday)

Rain began falling at daybreak, and by the time it ended in the early afternoon the following day, nearly four inches had been measured (3.92").  Temperatures this afternoon were only in the mid-40s, but then rose after midnight to 67° late in the morning on the 24th.

1969 (Thursday)

Three days after a record high of 80° this morning's low was a record 32°, and the high recovered to just 41°.  Tomorrow would see another record established with a low of 31°.  (All three records are still standing.)

Down_arrow_blue

1978 (Monday)

Today's high of 76° was the warmest reading of the month, but a strong cold front passed through during the evening and by midnight the temperature had fallen to 45° (on its way to 36° at daybreak on 10/24 - the coldest reading of the month.)

1990 (Tuesday)

2.53" of rain fell, beginning at 4AM and continuing all day, ending shortly before 1 AM on 10/24.  At its heaviest, 0.80" poured down in the hour between 8:41-9:41 PM.  The storm's amount was more than what fell in the entire month of September (2.24").

Umbrellas

2007 (Tuesday)

The morning low was a balmy 66°, 19 degrees above average and five degrees warmer than the typical high for the date.  The afternoon high got up to 78°.  Today was the 12th day this month with a low in the 60s, the most in October since Oct. 1879, which had 13 (Oct. 2017 would also have 12 such lows and Oct. 2021 had 13).

2013 (Wednesday)

Today was the first day this fall with a high temperature chillier than 60° - the second latest date for this occurrence in the years since 1970.  (The latest date was in 2007, when it occurred on Oct. 25.)

2014 (Thursday)

Yesterday's nor'easter continued into today, with breezy conditions and showers thru early afternoon; temperatures were stuck in the low 50s.  In total, 2.12" of rain fell from the storm (0.61" of it fell today), which was the greatest amount measured in the tri-state area.  Areas out on Long Island, however, reported much higher wind gusts (40-50 mph).

1884 (Wednesday)

Today's 0.89" rainfall was comparable to the amount that fell in the previous seven-and-a-half weeks (since 8/31), a period that would typically receive about 6.50".

1940 (Tuesday)

This was the fourth day in a row with very chilly temperatures.  The average high/low during these four days was 48°/32°, which was 15 degrees below average.  Today's low of 30° and the 30° low of 10/19 are records that are still standing.

1972 (Sunday)

This was the sixteenth day in a row with below average temperatures.  During this long stretch, temperatures were eight degrees colder than average.

1974 (Tuesday)

For the fifth morning in a row the low temperature was in the 30s. During these five days the readings were: 35° (10/18)-32°-31°-32°-37° (today).  The average low during this time in October is in the upper 40s.

1977 (Saturday)

Today, with a high/low of 70°/50°, was the only day from 10/2 to 10/24 with an above average mean temperature.  During this period, temperatures were eight degrees below average.  And today's high of 70° was the first in the 70s since 10/1.

1979 (Monday)

A flashback to summer as the temperature soared to 88°, twenty-seven degrees above average.  This was the warmest reading in October since 1959 (and there wouldn't be a hotter reading in October until 2019, when the high on 10/2 reached 93°).  Fortunately for runners, this freakish warmth occurred the day following the New York City Marathon (but even on that day it was a toasty 80°).  But despite these few days of summer-like conditions, the month overall would be cooler than average by 1.4 degrees.

Sunbathing_centralpark

1984 (Monday)

In a 15-minute period (9:30-9:45 PM), 0.55" of rain poured down, and 1.01" fell between 9:30-10:30 PM.  The day was also very mild, with a high/low of 77°/62°.  The day's total rainfall was 1.45", enough to set a record for the date (broken 30 years later).  This was also the first time in fourteen years to see measurable rain on this date.

2013 (Tuesday)

In the past 30 days, just 0.30" of rain was measured in Central Park.  If this were a calendar month, it would be tied for ninth driest on record.

Dustbowl

2014 (Wednesday)

It was a raw, windy and rainy day as a nor'easter slowly worked its way up the mid-Atlantic coast.  Temperatures for much of the day were in the low 50s.  By midnight, with rain still falling, 1.51" had been measured, a record for the date (0.06" more than 1984's amount).  This was the third one-inch rainfall of the month.

1974 (Monday)

This was the third morning in a row with a low of 32° or colder, the longest such streak so early in the season since a four-day streak occurred between Oct. 29 - Nov. 1, 1925.

1979 (Sunday)

Today was the running of the New York City Marathon, and it would be the marathon with the warmest conditions as temperatures were in the 70s throughout the race, topping out at 80°, eighteen degrees above average.  (But the day was eight degrees cooler than the next day, when the afternoon high soared to 88°.)

Clipart_sol2

1995 (Saturday)

2.17" of rain fell between 11 AM-6 PM, but much of it fell in a very short period of time.  A torrential downpour dumped 0.41" in just five minutes (11:41-11:46 AM), and then shortly afterwards 0.99" fell in thirty minutes (noon-12:30 PM).  The day's total rainfall was a record for the date - and the third rainfall record set this month.

Taxi_floodedstreet

2008 (Tuesday)

Although it was an inconsequential amount, the 0.01" of rain that fell during lunchtime was the first rain on this date in 12 years.

2016 (Friday)

This was the fifth 10/21 that fell on a Friday that had an inch or more of rain (1.11").  The other years it occurred were: 1887 (1.07"); 1898 (1.10"); 1904 (1.15"); and 1988 (1.53").  It joined Monday, 4/28 and Wednesday, 10/12 as the dates with most occurrences of this amount of rainfall.

1905 (Friday)

Six of the past seven days had highs in the 70s (warmest reading was 77°) at a time of year when the average high is in the low 60s.  And four of the days had lows in the 60s (warmest was 68° on the 19th, a record that still stands).  Cooler air moved in later today after a coastal storm that produced 2.33" of rain between last night and noon today exited.

1927 (Thursday)

The 0.12" of rain that fell this afternoon brought the total rainfall since 10/3 to nine inches.  During this eighteen-day period there were four nor'easters, each which dumped more than an inch of rain: 1.60" on 10/3-4; 1.44" on 10/8-9; 2.04" on 10/12-13; and 3.80" on 10/17-19.

1972 (Friday)

This morning's low of 32° was one of the earliest freezing temperatures on record in Central Park and came a month earlier than the typical date for the first frosty reading.  (The earliest frost on record occurred in 1876 on 10/15.)

Jack_frost

1974 (Sunday)

This morning's low was 31°, breaking the record set just two years earlier.  This was the third earliest date for a temperature of freezing or colder.

1977 (Thursday)

The afternoon high reached 58° for the third day in a row.  (However, each day had a different low.)

1989 (Friday)

2.78" of wind-swept rain fell today, and 5.34" fell over the past four days.  With today's rainfall (a record for the date), Central Park's total precipitation for the year topped 60 inches, making 1989 one of the five wettest years on record - with more than two months remaining in the year.  (Average annual rainfall is about 46 inches.)  Today's winds gusted to 40 mph.

This was the fourth time this year with back-to-back days in which an inch or more of rain fell, the most occasions of any year (later tied in 2020).

2005 (Thursday)

This morning's low of 49° was the first reading in the 40s of the fall, the latest date on record for this occurrence.  (The previous latest date was 10/16, which occurred in 1995 and 1955, later joined by 2017; then in 2021, the first low in the 40s occurred on 10/18.)  The first autumn low in the 40s typically occurs by the end of September.

2017 (Friday)

Humidity levels dropped below 20% during the first half of the afternoon, a rarity in October, which is the month least likely to experience humidity below 25%.

2018 (Saturday)

Light showers in the pre-dawn hours amounted to 0.06", bringing the year's precipitation to 50.05" - just the seventh year (since 1869) with 50 inches or more thru 10/20 (later joined by 2021).

1927 (Wednesday)

48 hours of rain, that amounted to 3.80", ended around noon.  It missed being the year's biggest rainstorm, which was on 9/1, by 0.05".  This was the fourth storm of one-inch or more since 10/3 (totaling nearly nine inches).

1963 (Saturday)

Today was the eleventh day in a row in which skies were either clear or sunny.  And for the fourth time this month the high reached 83°, the warmest reading of the month (today's high was twenty degrees above average).

1974 (Saturday)

The morning low of 32° tied 1940 for New York's second earliest freezing temperature on record (the temperature dipped to 30° in 1940, also on 10/19).  And the afternoon high of 49° was close to what the typical low should be.

1976 (Tuesday)

The high temperature was a chilly 50° for the third day in a row - thirteen degrees below average.

1996 (Saturday)

Moving in a few hours before daybreak, a nor'easter dumped 4.35" of rain, forcing postponement of Game 1 of the World Series at Yankee Stadium between the Braves and Yankees.  Nearly half of the rain poured down between 3:30-6:30 PM, with 1.07" falling in the hour between 4-5:00.  Not surprisingly, this was a record rainfall for the date.

1996_worldseries

2004 (Tuesday)

It was damp and chilly, with a high of 51°/low of 48°.  The 0.70" of rain that fell accounted for more than half of the month's paltry total of 1.15".  This followed a very wet September (11.51").

2012 (Friday)

For the second year in a row on this date temperatures were stuck in the 60s all day, and there was significant rainfall.  This year had a high/low of 66°/61°, and 0.89" of rain was measured; last year the high/low was 62°/60°, with 1.12" of rain.  Almost all of today's rain fell in the morning while last year's fell throughout the day.

2015 (Monday)

This morning's low was 35°, the chilliest reading this early in autumn since back in 1976 when the low fell to 34° on the same date as today.

2016 (Wednesday)

Today's high reached 85°, a record for the date, and the third day in a row with a high in the 80s.  With this streak, this became just the third October on record to have three 80-degree days after 10/15, joining 1963 (which had five) and 1947 (which had four).

1879 (Friday)

Today's low of 63° (sixteen degrees above average) was the thirteenth low in the 60s or milder this month, the most such days on record for October (later tied in Oct. 2021; and Oct. 2007 and 2017 would have 12).

1899 (Tuesday)

It was a very mild day, with a high/low of 79°/67° (twenty degrees above average).  This was the sixth day of a seven-day streak in which every day's low was in the 60s, which was milder than the average highs during this time of the month (low 60s).

1928 (Wednesday)

Today's high and low of 82°/69° were both records for the date, as was yesterday's low of 67°.  These readings were twenty degrees above average.

1980 (Friday)

A late afternoon thunderstorm dumped 0.66" of rain between 5-6 PM.  It was a mild day, with a high/low of 73°/60°.

1987 (Saturday)

Today's low of 53° was the mildest low temperature of the month (it also occurred on 10/7) - the chilliest reading to have this distinction.  (On average, October's mildest low is 64°.)  The previous chilliest reading to be the mildest low in October was 55° in October 1888.

1989 (Tuesday)

It was an overcast and raw day with afternoon temperatures in the upper 40s, just 24 hours after the high reached 70°.

1990 (Wednesday)

For the third day in a row the low temperature was 52°, close to average.  High temperatures were also very similar, but not the same (69°, 72°, 73°).  Today was also different from the other two days in that there was rain, with 0.85" falling during the evening.

This was the fourth day in a row in which temperatures failed to get out of the 40s.  It was also the sixth day of the past seven in which temperatures were 10 degrees or more colder than average.

Autumnleaves

2014 (Friday)

Today had a high in the 70s for the fifth day in a row.  During these days the average high/low was 73°/62°, eleven degrees above average.  Since Sept. 27, temperatures were nearly five degrees above average.

2016 (Monday)

For the second day in a row it was sunny with a high of 81°, making this the first October since 1979 to have two days with highs in the 80s after 10/15.  Average high on this date is 63°.

The 80s

Today in New York Weather History: October 16

1897 (Saturday)

Today's high of 87°, twenty-five degrees above average, was the warmest reading in October in the years of Central Park measurement in the 19th century (since 1869).  And although this temperature would be matched in 1919 and exceeded in 1922 (89°), this year's occurred thirteen and eleven days, respectively, later than 1919's and 1922's.

1908 (Friday)

Today's high of 80° came five weeks and one day after the previous reading in the 80s (Sept. 11).  If that September date had stayed as having the year's last 80+ reading it would have been one of the earliest dates on record for this occurrence.  (1902 holds the record, Sept. 2.)

1969 (Thursday)

Temperatures were in the seasonable mid-60s, and skies were a mix of sun and clouds, when the "Miracle Mets" won their first World Series this afternoon at Shea Stadium, defeating the Baltimore Orioles.

1974 (Wednesday)

The 2.15" of rain that fell today, a record for the date, accounted for almost all of October's rainfall (2.59").  It fell throughout the day, and was over by 9 PM.

Rainy_day

1992 (Friday)

It appeared this was going to be the fourteenth year in a row with no measurable precipitation on this date, but then a shower produced 0.01" of rain between 11PM and midnight.  The day itself, with a high/low of 77°/61°, was the mildest of the month.  The previous time rain fell on this date, in 1978, the amount was also 0.01".  (It's worth noting that the the rain that fell before midnight was in Standard Time, which is what the National Weather Service uses year-round; however, based on Daylight Saving Time, which was in effect on this date, the rain fell after midnight on 10/17).

2017 (Monday)

The temperature fell into the 40s for the first time this fall (at around 10 PM), the latest date since 2005 (when it occurred on 10/20, the latest date on record), and tied with 1995 and 1955 for the second latest date (now tied for third as the fall of 2021's first low below 50° occurred on 10/18). This came one week after the latest date for a low in the 70s was recorded (a mark that was bested in 2018).

2019 (Wednesday)

A nor'easter lashed the area from mid-afternoon until about 11 PM, dumping 1.83" of rain; howling winds gusted between 30-40 mph at Central Park (50-60 mph gusts were clocked elsewhere).  Today's rainfall total was greater than the amount that fell in the previous six weeks.  It was also the biggest daily rainfall of the year, besting 7/17's amount by 0.01".  However, this wasn't the year's greatest storm total as two storm systems in July, each encompassing two calendar dates, dropped more than two inches (2.33" on 7/17-18 and 2.19" on 7/22-23).

2020 (Friday)

Starting at around 10 AM a steady rain moved in, and by midnight 1.36" had fallen.  Two-thirds of this amount (0.91") came down between 11 AM and 2PM.  The day's high of 66° occurred in the overnight hours, but quickly dropped into the low 50s once the rain started.  This rainfall came four days after one of 1.30".

2021 (Saturday)

Today was the 15th day in a row with an above-average mean temperatures (average of high/low), the longest such streak since the winter of 2019-20, when there was a streak of 18 days (Dec. 22 - Jan. 8).  This period was six degrees above average.  Meanwhile, a 13-day streak of lows of 60+ ended today, after a cold front swept through during the evening, dropping the temperature to 56° by midnight.  This cold front also produced showers that amounted to 0.25”, which was 0.01” less than what fell in the first half of the month (the least rain to fall in the first half of October since 2000).
